I've learned my lesson and won't buy 1st gen anything anymore. I'm not paying out the ass to be a beta tester for some company that rolls out a buggy product. Well, any more that is... And from what I understand AT&T’s network won’t even support some of its applications.
My friends got the 1st Generation ipod and he is still using it everyday without any battery problems. I have the 2nd Generation, which is still a museum piece. The battery is great on it as well... it was like their 4th Gen did the ipods start misbehaving. Given China has the highest mobile phone usage with Japan also mobile phone land...I can't believe iPhone will hit Asia at the end of 2008... I wonder how I can buy this unlocked from At&T and start using it here in HK? Maybe get it on eBay?
The US has people that run tiny businesses where all they do is unlock phones for people. You go to the mall and someone has a pushcart where they offer their services.
I should have added that I have the worst luck with this kind of thing. there could be 100 sitting out and I will almost always grab the one that's defective...Althought I had a friend who bought an Ipod and had it die after the first charge. Got it replaced no problem but it made me feel better to know I'm not the only jinxed one.
my coworker waited from 9 am to 6 pm...fifth in line and he has his 8 gig...BOOM! p.s....have you seen what they are being flipped on ebay for?
I would've gotten one but...I'm sorry. AT&T service just sucks. I don't know about the rest of the country but where I'm at, calls were dropped all the time. They couldn't find a better service provider? I mean, it's still a phone, right?
From what I've read, Apple actually asked Verizon first but they turned them down. Sucks, because I have Verizon now and would LOVE to have the iphone, but no company can beat the Verizon service across the US.
I diddled around with one yesterday after passing an ATT store. There was a crush of people around the demo phones, but I had a few minutes with one. Slick product. ATT is the biggest concern to me. I'm sure that Apple will sell millions of these and blow by their sales target. People were willing to spend hundreds on early ipods and this has so much more functionality. Tempting but I'll still wait for gen 2 or 3. Two or three times the capacity, work out the bugs and cut the price by a third or half. First phone that I think I actually like.
I have Verizon as well and I went and messed around with an iPhone today. All I can say is Verizon really screwed up on that deal. From the little time I used the phone it is pretty damn awesome. Much better than all the other PDA's I have used or seen.
Verizon would take out half the features to try to force you into using vcast though . I guess I can live without one for now, I would be much happier with a cheaper version that does less but still has the nice apple interface.
Yeah. I've been reading a lot into stuff, and I guess the reason Verizon turned it down was because of exactly what you said. Apple had certain terms and Verizon refused to agree to them. haha I haven't had any problems with verizon, but from what I gather they have terrible customer service. I'm really hoping that some how this will fuck them and then I can get an iphone. However I doubt it.
Initially I didn't think about how Verizon would eliminate many of the features but you are very right they really desaturate their phones. I have a razr and it does half the crap that the same phone with cingular will do.
Wow. I just saw an iPhone ad. It demonstrated safari by connecting to KR and showing [expletive deleted]. Wow.
i bought my iphone the day it came out. it has worked great i love it. I even got a 100 dollar rebate. 100% happy.
It seems that everyone who has one loves it, and the people complaining about it don't own one. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but there sure is a lot of knee-jerk Apple-hate whenever they release anything. I don't get it, with the exception of the complaints about poor customer service. Even Apple employees say they have poor customer service.
In the UK, the contract is stupidly expensive. Also, this isn't meant to drag up all the old pc vs mac, buuut the majority of conversations with people who have macs, make me never want to purchase one again. And if I hear 'It just works!' one more time, argh!. sorry.
oh and to quote mr maddox again http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=macs_cant I bought an iPod, I installed the free iTunes, but to use cover art I have to give Apple my credit card details for their store even though I have no intention of using it (DRM riddled crap)!!
