Really dig the kraken harryhousen thing. Didn’t know about it until them collectors flooded my feed with their reposts.

HxS paints are fun in person with lots of nuance that is always lost on the photographs.

I think this was a public lottery (with secret handshakes, I'm sure), but only ran for 45 minutes or so. Of course I chose yesterday to sleep off several flights for 14 hours.

Attack Peter posted a picture from Guillermo Del Toro's studio and in the bottom right of the bookshelf there is a mech figure with a pilot that looks very similar to the newer Hirota piloted mechs. Does anyone know what property this is from. Im not super into mechs so don't really know the landscape. But it was striking to me that HxS must have copied it.

What I dont understand is this, everytime a show happens HxS fans start posting their enormous toy collections religiously on IG, which is great, I love seeing them, but if you have an enormous collection, why wouldn't you want other people to get a chance at the toys as well? If I found a toy I already have a copy of I'm not going to bid, I'm going to let other people have a chance at that toy... Maybe my way of thinking isn't the way of the world? I'm not a huge fan of exclusivity, and I've never thought owning something makes me better than the next person. On a un-HxS related note, a Rikidizer just sold for 8k. I loved it but I like food for a year more.

 

Why do people with huge collections want another one? I don't think that's exclusive to HxS. No offense meant to anyone, but some Kumon collectors have seemingly hundreds, and some MVH collectors seem to get every release produced. Collectors collect. There's no real logic as to why someone would need to have every color of the same sculpt and can't spread the love, but logic is not why we collect sofubi anyways.

(On a logical note, it seems that those that hoard sculpts, by not allowing others to have one, actually help to increase scarcity and "value" of said toy.)

I personally try to limit myself to one of any sculpt, although there are a few toys where I have a few different colorways.

 

I own 79 Obake Dogs by Secret Base, 56 Cinema Monsters by Secretoy and zero Hirota. At least I’m not part of the problem.

 

I know it varies per artist, but I think some sellers legitimately only want their toy to go to true collectors, right? And each artist has their set parameters.
illsynapse holds most of his lotteries via DM only, usually a 30-50pc run. Then all of a sudden, he makes a new vinyl, that's practically an "open edition" of 300, where now he accepted hundreds of new DMs for the first time.
I've been on both sides of that fence where you're in the "members only" club and also your umpteenth entry DM has gone unread.

The KAIEDA/Dune figure is pretty great (Conan and Robonoid suit sold separately).

I think I mentioned it previously, the likeness of Hirota’s piloted mechas (particularly the older ones with the Boba Fett style masks, not the newer Predator looking ones) instantly reminded me of Vile from Megaman X.

 

My friend was dating a girl who collected vacuum cleaners her collection was quite wild and she lost her mind over Buta's vacuum cleaner man.

Hah, I pretty much just collect what I like and stay away from hype toys… And if there are hype toys I like, I just hope that they depreciate over time to the point where I can afford them!

 

So what is the cartoon all these mecha kong designs are coming from? I'd love to check it out.
