I realise that politics is frowned on here and I haven't looked into it in any great depth . . . but it always struck me as odd why people were so up-in-arms about Obamacare!

The NHS isn't perfect and is severely underfunded but I'd rather have that than nothin' or being forced to deal with shady fuckin' Insurance companies in a time of crisis.

BTW VAT we can live with. Import Duty and 'handling fees' are what really pisses us off!

The worst part of it is, with its privatized system and incredibly high costs, the US has some of the worst healthcare outcomes, and life expectancy is actually falling.

I hope the US finally joins the rest of the world at some point and adopts a national system.

believe me, I'd love to see my existing taxes put to better use but I can't think of any industry that improved after government takeover.

I think to be perfectly honest you should abandon well worn concepts like "socialism" and "government takeover." They are largely pushed out there by think tanks that seek to coopt the discussion and weaponize responses to important issues.

I'd just encourage you and anyone to avoid the general thought tripes, abandon the "America is the best, no matter what" way of thinking, and look at the reality of the situation on the ground. Look at life expectancy, for example. The truth is the truth. No spin. No agenda. Just people and their lives. That's all that matters - not this left vs right bullshit that's used to control the discussion and fatten the wallets of industries and politicians.

You will need medication or an operation, and the insurance company will fight you, potentially to your death, to prevent you from getting the care you need. In the meantime, all you want to discuss is the homogeneity of one country vs. another.

The reason I began mentioning politics - in a broad sense and not singling out either party - was because of your loaded phrase "government takeover." That's code, which was generated by a think tank, which is part of a system designed to brainwash you.

I agree everyone should work hard, but I do not buy into the contrived notion that national healthcare = a government power grab. Again, it is an argument contrived by an industry that wants you to pay more than you should for sub par care.

Big fuck you to my sister that doesn’t take care of herself. She had a heart attack that required a quadruple bypass surgery, she’s only 38. The kicker is she had it all the way in Arkansas, but she lives here in California with my parents. So my parents had to drive all the way out there to take care of her and now probably have to pay for all her medical bills. She would have been better off dying at this point. If you have children or parents and don’t take care of yourself, fuck you. Your not just hurting yourself.
