Pretty much the gold standard for all comic translation ;)
With Japanese to English it's a little more understandable (although never excusable) but you'd think they'd be able to find a good French to English translator who was enthusiastic about the source material... Glad to hear Tome & Janry is done better, anyway. I think I have one or two old Lucky Luke books somewhere, too - a good translation done around the same era as the original is almost always going to fit better, sadly!

I'm about 5 years late to the party, and what a glorious bummer of a party it is!

I usually go to my local comic shop every Wednesday for new comics. So iv already acquired a list of what I'm going for. Dark Knights Metal series from DC is a rather fantastic read.

Cool, i will have to find some time today to read that. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. He's not really the same, but Hanselmann reminds me of Joe Daly. Probably the stoner vibe . . .

if you haven't read Joe Daly, give him a go!

The new trade should be out soon. Nick Darrington and Gerrard Wey. Killing it. It's weird and beautiful. Plays allot off of the Morrison run.
It's really a gorgeous strange romp.

That new Mr. Miracle is amazing as well. Really well worth the read.

Seconded. Not sure how I could have been more impressed with Emil Ferris' fanticist memoir: from the most perfect metaphor for not feeling a part of your surroundings; to almost naturally occuring art history lessons; to unexpected and affecting plot swerves; to engaging sidelines across decades and continents... all told in a genuinely unique style... and plenty of monsters! The fact that the whole of the tale was completely rendered with BALL POINT PENS? Wow. Stunning stuff. I can hardly wait for the second half to arrive.

Caught up now and not completely sold - undeniably fun, but it read more like elaborate Grant Morrison fan fiction (with light nods to the Drake/Premiani years) than anything with a depth of its own. I'll definitely stick with it to see where it goes, so thanks for the rec.

Anybody here not familiar with GM's run on Doom Patrol? Run don't walk!

Wow, good call! Completely missed him during my years in the wilderness and absolutely loving the ketchup now that I've been hepped. Deeply real while deeply odd and absurd, with fluid and evocative cartooning that's absolutely swoon-worthy. Impressed!

Midway through Highbone Theatre and the first story from The Red Monkey Double Happiness Book. More to follow as interlibrary loan works its magic.

Took a trip to my local library and found that they had all of Valérian and Laureline’s adventures collected (in Swedish). Had to take them out all of them (was one heavy bag to drag home). Now I’m going through them all I a high pace, asking myself how I could have looked past these all these years.

I haven't read Highbone Theatre, thanks for the heads-up!

I've been picking up the Dargaud English translations and more recently the Cinebook editions. I know what you mean, how was I not aware of Valerian years ago? Its classic bande dessinee. So much imagination in each story!

I think I bought about 87 dollars worth of comics this past Wed. I normally spend around 40 but they had a lot of good stuff out this past week. New swamp thing comic is super badass. That in itself is about an 80 page read.

Comic book collecting sure as fuck is not cheap but it's something I greatly appreciate. It saddens me that most brick and mortar regular stores are pretty much bare when it comes to anything comic book related. Hell, i remember when you could walk into a pharmacy or a Walmart and find a nice small section of comics to check out and read.

Here's something kinda nutty I did recently - swapped precious vinyl for some fabulous floppies:

I am now the proud owner of the short-but-sweet complete run of Mr. Kirby's take on 2001:

The received packet was not without a wealth of unexpected bonus paper, not least of which... MORE Kirby!

No less appreciated were these lovely and well-loved bits o' printed matter:

I'll miss my plastic, sure, but I think both parties in the trade walked away exceedingly happy.

Yeah, I know... I thought the treasury was part of the trade, but the bonus bits made me feel a good bit better, heh.

The little guys are complete, though!

PS: Forgot about these miniature yum-yums, too ---

Nice grab, Chimps! Didn't know that the oh-so-worthy collection existed until you brought it up.

    The variants, though? Silly!
