Did anyone else catch this new show last night?

I was worried it would be either too watered down for a wider audience or that it would take itself too seriously like most remakes do the last few years. I was totally wrong. I thought it was amazing. So true to the old movies with the hilariously idiotic hero and buckets of over the top gore. Instantly became my favorite thing on TV.

Back to back with Final Girls made for a perfect "silly gore" Halloween night.

How many episodes will there be? It's going to be a fun ride.

10 episodes. So far so good. Glad to see Sam Raimi hasn't lost his touch!

I was curious about this one, being a long-time Evil Dead fan . . . . now i'm very excited to see it.

My only concern is that the rest of the 10 episode run isn't going to be directed by Sam Raimi like the first episode was. Reading the other five director names I can't place a single one of them.

Still hoping for the best though!

Finally watched it, and I think I built it up a little too much in my mind. Was a tad disappointed, but it was definitely a fun ride, and I will continue to watch. The thing that threw me the most was some of the cheesy CGI effects. Like I said, I'll keep watching, but I'll have to lower my expectations a little.

Loved it. Also interested how it continues sans Raimi.

So tonights episode was pretty fun, exceeded the first episode for me. I like the tone so far and the chemistry between Ash and Pablo. Seemed to be less cgi junk in this ep too, lots of corn syrup blood and great "deadite" face makeup.

    Excited for more! :D

Wow, was surprised to see Mimi Rogers. I thought it was her when they showed the preview for this week, but then forgot about it.

Also surprised that it was only a half hour. Although, I think brevity might work in the show's favor. Keep it fast and furious. Really liked the shotgun-mounted camera shots, and the broken bottle scene.

The soundtrack is pretty dang groovy, too.

Episode flew by for me too. Thought it was great. Deer got stuck in my grille, so I had to chop it up with my chainsaw... arm.

FINE! I'll have a look. It's not like I don't have time to kill.

Why do you guys care about cheesy cgi when everything in the show is cheesy? It's awesome, but cheesy too. So what's just one more element?

Because the original movies made really stunning use of cheap, practical effects.

I don't mind CGI blood, it's just not done very well here. It's not a major deal, for me, but if they're going to use it I just wish it looked a little better.

Exactly what a lot of people (including myself) said about Takeshi Kitano's 'Zatoichi' at the time.
I think it was argued that CGI blood was quicker and cheaper to do . . . . that was in 2003, though.

i watched episode 1 on demand, but when I tried to watch episode 2, i found out i didn't have a subscription to starz. Funny they must give you access to epiisode 1 trying to get you to subscribe. I think HBO has done this with series like GOT as well.

I am actually enjoying the cgi cheese mixed in with the mostly practical effects gore. It reminds me of some of the stuff in the old movies honestly. Like when Ash fought a bunch of mini versions of himself. Horrible green screen effects but it was part of the charm. This show is wonderful so far and the only thing I would change is making the 30 minute episodes and hour long so we have more to enjoy.

Caught up and watched the first two episodes. I enjoyed them very much.
They are sticking to the tried and trusted formula but somehow it doesn't seem tired or played-out.
It's still the crazy and goofy entertainment i've always loved.

"Well, a) I'm an alone wolf."

    "You mean a LONE wolf."

    "Yeah, exactly."

Or something to that effect. Quoting from memory.

The writing in this damn show is fucking amazing. So many perfect one-liners and Ash has the comedic timing to handle every single one of them. He's endearing and awful at the same time. I have not enjoyed a show this much since The Wire first aired on HBO ages ago.
