I guess I pass on the Drunk Boys as I have some originals and go with the Blobpus impired Goga.
Mixed feelings though like when Marmit reissued their Alien.

I've been chasing the Blobpus standard size Goga for over eight years after picking up the mini and blobpus set.
If I had paid crazy money for the OG, I'd be pissed to see this reproduction. I never landed the OG so I guess it all works out this time.
But it just makes me wonder if other rare paints are in the wings, like a vader _________________ .

edit: probably not an exact match (can't find a photo of the OG) but darn near close enough IMO

Whoa! That was unexpected. Hope they go the extra mile with the gold glitter.

Be a cold day in hell before I deal with M-world again. They can have their Goga not that keen on it. GID would have been better:D I get the historical relevance for long time Anraku collectors but not my cup of tea.

I think I might go for that yellow Drunk Boy since I will finally have a paycheck (after 4 years- starting in July).

If they do it right, the Goga should have some glow like the Blobpus/Anraku pair.

Wait, M-World is a forwarding service? I thought it was a mailing list to get pretty toy photos sent to you daily with random numbers. ;)
(But seriously, their markups are insane.)

While I do think the new Goga is nice, I still prefer the pink + clear GID Medicom version.

Things have changed round here – just trying to get my head round it!

Here's the original Goga for reference.
This one pictured is from an unfinished YJA auction in March 2014...

thats by far the fugliest paintjob medicom did so far.
more like the opposite of what anraku is known for.

with is so many talented awesome new one man operations out in asia lately
that are very similar to what anraku used to be back in the days
    dont get the hype here.

While I think the OG had a much more subtle and interesting paint balance, and the green was an improvement that took it beyond the garish category, there is really not that much of an overt difference, outside of the obvious mouth changes, that I would automatically dismiss this one out of hand. The painting on Medicom stuff tends always to be heavier and lacks that artistic touch (which is definitely unfortunate), but that's what you get from going on a larger production route. And again, sometimes the pre-order mockup doesn't always necessarily reflect the final product; though I think this is the exception rather than the rule. I would more wonder why AA would agree to lend out their license for something if it didn't mean the same quality requirement the brand is known for. As an 'artist' I think that would be the top priority [for me] but then I also get that fans are clamoring for more toys, which you can't always meet. But as for [nearly] repro'ing an already made figure, meh, not so sure on that score. As Lixx said, I would have much rather seen a nod to this earlier version by using a GID base or something. But hypez will hype.

I am happy for the chance to put this Goga on the shelf and this paint job is a vast improvement compared to some of the other recent color choices for AA preorders.

I have ordered most of the preorders to date and aside from some minor masking problems, paint quality has been pretty good. I never expected them to be of the quality the originals were..in my mind Anraku is one of the more talented painters out there and his runs were always ultra-low, so again apples and oranges. I think I have had more issues with the Medicom color choices than the paint quality.

^^Ultra, I think Anraku is willing to lend out his license because he still wants to create and put his toys in the hands of fans but is unable to physically do so himself anymore because of Parkinson's.

Personally, again I think it's great that Anraku fans have more options now...widely available cheaper preorders and his insanely good originals that take considerably more time, effort and money to track down. It's a good mix that makes collecting AA fun.

I like the vinyl color for the new DB's, the milky white translucent is one of my favorites in the hand so I will be interested to see what the translucent yellow and red vinyl look like in person. Those eyebrows though...I know this is just a mockup but I much prefer the subtlety of the paints with regard to facial expressions on the OG Drunk Boys. Hoping they don't overdo it.

Curious as to who you think are the new guys similar to Anraku back in the days, because I can't really say any of the new guys I'm aware of trigger thoughts of Anraku.

The price has been the same on most the stuff, but the quality is not as great. I loved the DIY quality that the originals had. At least people now have a shot at getting the sculpts.

anraku used to be just a common toymaker for quite a while. nothing special much.
he did what he liked, he had his own style and brought something new to the table.

i see that with a lot of new toymakers too.

dont want to discuss single toymakers here as its a very subjective perception anyways,
you like it or you dont. but the whole new keshi movement brought out amazing cool toys imho.
really appreciate personal contact through instagram and buying direct from makers once again.

if i read collectors saying new toys evoke primal feelings i think u can not do any better than that as a toymaker.

Dang, yellow Drunk Boy looks like he's wearing some serious lipstick in that photo. I guess that's a good thing though, means I save my money.

Great seeing them all together. That being said...I had no idea the Sasakamabikuchis were that tall. They make the drunk boys look mini. Anyway those larvae look great.

I'm sorry, he's doing licensed Toho sculpts now? I nearly spit my coffee when I clicked on this! Had they been Tsubu TV toys I would have had to do that thing where my legs kick up into the perpendicular, steam emitting from my ears as I hover, while my eyes perform full-Pinocchios trying to reach the screen.

    Would've gotten messy fast.
