Cue everyone suddenly becoming massive Toho Rolex fans. I can recall people I know personally shitting on the big G now champing at the bit.

I like the look of some of those paints. But it's jarring to have them on a screen-accurate sculpt with so much regular, granular detail. I think that's the Marmit Desu Goji? That really struck me as a strange choice. Then I remembered they often cost a bomb anyway, so this is the one version of Godzilla still in production you can charge hypebeast prices for

 

Desucration.

If the paint scheme matched the figure, it would be a lot more attractive. Good as his painting may be, it just looks like the rainbow vomit that too many people use these days.

 

Not too sound like I'm not hip with it but I didn't even realise the Marmit Desu Goji is such a sought after and hyped piece. Personally out of all the amazing Godzilla sculpts out there, this doesn't even crack into my top favourites.

 

When I first glanced at these, I dug them because Shig's paint work on toys with a ton of texture often yields impressive results.
Then I started critically looking at it, and aside from being a hype toy/hype maker cash grab it just doesn't work. Daniel's rainbow vomit comment is right on. Too many colors, too much going on. I have never been tempted by the Desu Gojis because in my mind, for those prices I can get incredible vintage goji toys with historical relevance that just excite me more all around.

Just because a paint job is busier doesn't necessarily make it better. It all depends on the sculpt and the suitability. It might take more time and in some cases more talent, but a lot of these paint jobs just end up giving me a headache at the end of the day.

Absolutely, but try telling that to Nagata and his legion of Facebook 'Customisers'. They also seem to believe a godawful paint job triples the value of the toy immediately.

 

Nagata has done some cool licensed kaiju lately and has certainly contributed more to the hobby than I ever will, but I agree custom toys leave me flaccid 98% of the time these days.

There are still some pretty cool collaborations going on out there though.

 

y'all need closeups of those eyes so the proper hype can be had. timestamped of course.

Agreed; those are the strongest paints. I'm also partial to the pink guy because I'm loud and tasteless though

Not that I know a damn thing about where to get one or how much it'll cost. Once those details are out I expect to lose interest.

 

So these were displayed at the recent Medicom Toy Show. A fellow SBer made me aware that they are being sold by lotto at 91,800 yen a pop
