I'm done for now. I personally never saw the appeal in it nor ever had the desire to watch it. But again you know how ppl latch onto this stuff sometimes.
Yes, I know it's sort of sad, because that's what friends are for and all, but for what feels like the longest time the thing I've most looked forward to about anything new and Star Warsy coming to pass is these guys talking about it: Not saying I sign off on everything they have to say each time, although I do nod in recognition plenty often, it's just that I find their exhaustion and analysis to be far more entertaining than the time that I admittedly keep choosing to spend in a movie house for these products. Except, of course, for Last Jedi; that was rad!
After reading lots of vehement reviews about Rise, I'm looking forward to seeing it even more now, haha. My brother (who hated Last Jedi) said it was entertaining for a SW flick, and brought the fun back into it again, which was music to my ears to be honest. He had reservations about some things, but overall he liked it, and said I should see it before I see too many spoilers. I've watched 3 Mandalorian, and I've enjoyed it a lot so far. Its simple but effective, nothing mind blowing but its charming and fun. The only criticism I have is sometimes the music sounds bad to me, really really bad, its often cheesy and distracting.
Outside of the movie talk I wanna say i really miss seeing lots of new three and three quarter Star Wars figures every month or so on the store shelves. You used to walk into a store and always find your classic characters and aliens than you'd find a nice variety of EU figures that would add a nice flavor to your collection. The early 2000's had some of the best lines. Now its pretty much once an initial wave of promo movie figures comes out you really don't see anything till the next movie. They hardly bother to retread the old movies to find figures to make that's not another Rey or Rose it seems.
Saw Rise of Skywalker three times over the weekend, loved it every time but man, it is dense and hectic, necessarily so because it's working so hard to undo the previous film. Erasing Maz Kanata from the movie completely would have provided a significant improvement but I still enjoyed it.
Did she look like they used a puppet this time around? E.T. was more lifelike than Maz. I wonder if it was a situation similar to Episode 1, where they used a makeshift Yoda puppet and planned on replacing it with CGI later on (they never got this done in time for the first theatrical release).
Personally I like the practical effects more than the CGI stuff. The only time I think it's appropriate is for space battles and lightsaber's.
This describes me after the whole prequel era and additional-digi-scenes-added-to-the-originals era. Once Ep 7 existed I've been enjoying it all as the pulp sci-fi that SW always was.
The AV Club eloquently pointed out my biggest gripe with the movie. Don't get me wrong, I throughly enjoyed it! But to have Luke contradict himself from one movie to the next just to spite Johnson is a bit much. The rollbacks were blatant and without regard. https://film.avclub.com/the-rise-of-skywalker-walks-back-the-last-jedi-s-best-d-1840513344 (in case anyone's interested in a read)
Always thought that meme format was boring, but the wording is perfect. To make a generalization, there’s bigger shit to worry about than someone making a SW film that isn’t up to your standards, especially when it’s fanboys that smell like they haven’t showered in weeks. I didn’t expect to see them in Australia, but two of them were reclining and complaining before it even started. I should have complained about the stank.
That's nothing unique to just Star Wars though. You'll find those kind of hygiene challenged ppl in any fandom. You'll find plenty of ppl that hate this movies constant contradiction and nostalgia retreading that take care of there body as well. You just got unlucky lol.
True but out of everything I am a fan or enjoy of, SW fanboys are the most fucking annoying and gross.
Anybody else getting a ridiculous amount of ads for bootleg Star Wars (specifically Baby Yoda) merch on Facebook? It's like I'm walking down Artists Alley at some con in my newsfeed.. I'm surprised Disney of all companies are not squashing that shit.
Further proof that JJ Abrams is very good at making cool looking scenes and lots of flash and thunder but pretty much no substance and make it happen fast so you don't notice until later that it was all smoke and mirrors using endless McGuffin chases instead of plot and storyline. Last Jedi was better at character development and making things actually interesting. Fun, but empty, and lots of characters were given the shaft which sucked. Better than I expected but I look forward to more SW like Mando and Rogue One from now on. I look forward to the Obi Wan series that's coming.
Went to see Rise earlier, and I enjoyed it. Not as much as Force Awakens, but I liked it more than Last Jedi.
Last ep ruled. Character, comedy and earned action. Once the name of the director flashed on screen it all made sense. Kinda feel like I got 4% of my childhood back, too. TV. It gives so much and asks so little.
