I once sent him a link to this thread, and he replied that he checks SB pretty frequently. Of course, I imagine he has the same machine translation problem we have reading his blog.
I'm gluing these to my shelf along with tunneran, and gomioyabun (sp?) IF I'm lucky. the gerohedorah dude would be great in a clear vinyl of some kind. <3 <3 <3
I'm not an Elegab fan, but I've always respected the shit he drops from afar... It's creative, it's unique, it's got a consistent style that ain't my thing...but I can dig it. The more "literal" monsters like Gomioyabun, Gerohedoro, Oil Shock...and earlier ones like Shuttlegon and the Monster Patrol Car are aiight...but I gotta say, the more abstract ones like Tunneran and Smog King are blowing my fucking mind apart.
Hail to Smog King ! His A-Bomb mushroom / cloud head with eyes is stunning. And I love so much those embedded factories at his feet. It's a walking story in itself. Gerohedoro is a litlle bit too crawling for me, and Oil Shock could be nice in hand but I do not dig the drawing too much.
Any one of these new ideas would make a great toy. I love that Nari presents us with all these possibilities and lets us mull them around. The fact that he has so many great ideas makes me very happy in the knowledge that Elegab toys will be around for quite a while. Gerohedoro the crustacean guy is one of the coolest sea pollution monsters around. That face on oil shock is enough to make me fall in love with it. I agree that Smog King is just brilliant and would make a great partner next to Tunneler. The excitement mounts!
Gerohedoro has some Twin-Tail in him, and is awesome for it... Nari's designs really just amaze me at how unique they are while still being a fairly cohesive bunch. That and, they all look FUN!
What is great about the Elegab releases is that the sculpts are on par with the sketches. Things don't get lost or diluted along the way.
It looks like Smog King is the crowd favorite, but I want to give Oil Shock some love, too. The face on that guy is adorable! It looks like a small toothy slug just peeking it's head out of a kaiju costume. Maybe like a combo radioactive/oil spill transformed some poor innocent slimy creature into a horrible mutant. The pose is also so wonderfully awkward. Like a kid just gone through a growth spurt. Yes, I believe Oil Shock has some body issues. Emo much? (He also reminds me of Smogun which is my favorite sculpt ever.)
Yeah, when I began the thread I linked him to it - I think he's always followed it a bit. It's really nice to see him involved a-la the popularity battle of two character ideas, to choose what to move forward with for the fans. No joke, pollution monsters are nothing new, but his take on a smog-based creature is fresh & will certainly be something I'll be gunning for. Get your Shuttle, yet? Bring it with you next time you're here
I can't believe it! Nari has such an impact on monster-output... ideas are always deep & they makes sense! All three new character sketches defintely rules Three thumbs up Nari-san!! サタンノイズ | SATAN NOISE シオラ | SCIORRA モグロン| MOGURON (source: http://naritada.exblog.jp/ more translated content here:.. http://auxpeer.blogspot.com/ ) http://www.auxpeer.com +++ http://www.v-kingz.com
I really love the second one. Hope it gets done. The first one is also great but I don't like the lizard arms. I would like to see it more hellish.
One of the things I appreciate most about Nari's work is that all of the designs have a sense of cohesion, like they all could be products of the same world/environment. Overall, his color choices for each are pretty much in the same ballpark, which goes a long way in unifying the whole mess. I love it.
one of each, please. I just thought of a monster that spawned from Nari's monsters. I called it: "pants-shitting brain melter" holy mess, man. the guy is really killing it!
