Yasushi Nirasawa is a sculptor/illustrator in Japan famous for doing a lot of the monsters during the late 80's/early 90's "creature boom". Lately, he's been designing the kaijin for the new Kamen Rider shows. I haven't watched any of the shows, and I think the new Riders look dorky, but some of the monsters are pretty cool. Anyway, Fewture is putting out a few vinyls he did at HobbyCon on the 6th of next month. I'd post the pictures, but it looks like they have right-click disabled on the page so I'll just give you the URL: http://artstorm.co.jp/hobbycom_fewture2.htm What do you guys think? I guess it's little bit different than the stuff that usually gets posted up in here, but pretty tight. I really like the Green Chrysalis and the Frankenskull also grew on me. I'll probably try to snag both of those. The Takayuki Takeya stuff up above is really, really well sculpted, but just not my style. Although when I saw that the skeleton Kannon from Zeiram was only ¥2500 I realized I MIGHT have to bite on that one too... Zeriam is pretty cool and that would probably look alright on a bookshelf. After looking at this stuff and the dealers list for Hobbycon the first thing I did was jump on eBay and hit the old Sell button
I'm a long time fan of both Nirasawa and Takeya. Didn't have much money or access to their garage kits back in the day so I mostly stuck with their books which were still hard to find. My interests have slightly shifted to the more stylized side of Japanese figures but I still go ga-ga for the hyperdetailed work of these guys.
Joe got crazy with the delete account button today. You have been warned....don't mess with The Bunny!
