I sent my X-Plus "Big Garamon" resin statue to painter Rick Cantu- commissioned him to improve upon the utterly shitty factory paint ops. Just received this progress pic this morn- YESSSS! NOW I can see the cthonic, gelatinous weight of the lips! NOW the irises are at the perfect proportion to the whites, with the perfect degree of Gara-walleye! And the drybrushed highlights...only about a hundred times more natural... And this is still being worked- the eyes are going to be glossed, with just the slightest, naturalizing tint of red oxide mixed in; Rick's also gonna do some more work on the overall skin surface (face/torso/arms) that's really gonna make this piece pop in a particular way...can you say "Basil Gogos"?
Resurrecting this thread, as I’ve just received a pic of the finished statue from Rick Cantu…I love what he’s done! I actually nixed the idea to do a full-on Basil Gogos-style paint scheme, with all sorts of contrasting color accents- I feared the piece might become a bit too busy, if we went that route. I’m really happy with the way this has turned out; sorry I don’t have a pic of the un-repainted statue at hand, but take my word for it: it’s a huge improvement!
I know, right?!? I'd like to buy the world a Garamon.... Lemme tell ya, I am well-ready to display this huge hunk of resin Gara-goodness! He was a major grail for me: hunted him for five years, beginning in '99; had a few frustratingly close misses along the way; finally scored him in October '04- amazingly, tho, I have never yet put him out on display. I was waiting to get the repaint done, hunting around for the best person to do the job, backburner-ing it and spending money on other things, etc. Finally I found Rick, but I had to get on his waiting list- add another 7 months. Can't wait to get him home, plug him into his awesome base (featuring a little Semi-Ningen at his feet, in an arm-sweeping "TA-DA!" pose), and give him his rightful place of honor in the Gara-case.
