Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Brian was involved with this correct? Any chance copies will be available through the store? http://softvinylmonster.sakura.ne.jp/sb ... 080331.jpg
No sorry, but here's a translation and some more info. -------------------------------------------------------------- Ultra monster Godzilla Tamotsu Hiroshi SOFUBI ● Ultra collection Kazunori Saitou monster Godzilla SOFUBI Tamotsu Hiroshi <author: Kazunori Saitou / Kodansha> A long while, "Marchand BURUMAAKU SOFUBI monster" specific version of the book's contents have been released. This volume in 2940 yen (including tax) is not cheap. Good eye candy. Incidentally, "Kazunori Saitou Collection" is the second bullet "Tamotsu Hiroshi POPINIKA superalloy (provisional)", third bullet, "and hero toy JANBOMASHINDA (provisional)" will be published one after another. Bear-made model is limited in a magazine "YUTOMU Giant." MARUZAN based on the YUTOMU while also making SAIZURASHII included Giant granularity and thrilling feeling, well more promising.
Cool...this I too am very interested in...what a Killer cover!!! ...I have a message to Flynn in my outbox from the 25th....so maybe when he's not so tied up he will shed some light!
Ah, I heard about this, it's the upcoming Kazunori Saito book. Here's his bibliography at Amazon: link. If you don't have those books already, get them, they're excellent.
We will have this book soon Saito was in SF last week. We have an advanced copy in the shop and it is a great book.
Yes, I helped on this book, the promo images show several of my toys! I will post up more about it later, I have been out for a week and a half, sorry for the lack of updates. -brian
I look forward to hearing, and hopefully seeing more of this. So is this part #1 of 3 books in a series then? Thanks for the info.
Have you guys seen the other Saito books? Toy porn, indeed. He's got one on Popy, , one on Popynica one on Machinders, one on Henshin Cyborg, and 3 on Sofubi. Well worth hunting for.
This is funny, the book has only one review on Amazon, and it gives one star. Here's a translation courtesy of Matt Alt: "They call it complete, but there's no list of products or any kind of overview data! I was SHOCKED! There's no way to know if all the kaiju are REALLY here, and the only text is trivia level... And the author's rarity scale system is laughable." (Read it out loud in the Comic Book Guy's voice, it's funnier.)
Just got the book, it is big and beautiful, and it focuses exclusively on Ultra and Godzilla kaiju. Gonna spend more time savoring it later.
gotta second how amazing this book is...a truly important book on Japanese Vinyl toys and hopefully the beginning of a great series (since it's subtitled Vol. 1)...I'd say if you have a chance to get this, jump on it...since it's really quite stunning...
Hey folks - this sounds like an amazing book pictorially, but does anyone have feedback on the textual aspect? I'm sure I'd drool all over the photos, but I'd love to become more informed on the history/back story on the vintage pieces.
There is much more text in the book than Saito's previous ones. However, you have to be able to read Japanese to enjoy it.
