Which Figures did Mori Paint?

Doesn't Mori still personally paint limited figures for shows (like the Beast for SF50)?

I don't know if I really get the artificial flower analogy here. Masking, to me, is not so much of a attempt to emulate free-hand spray as it is a totally different paint technique. A lot of what you can do with paint masks would be extremely difficult to do by hand and the airbrush alone (e.g., very small, sharp-edged details). Likewise, I think it would be virtually impossible to create paint masks that 'streamline' the free-hand look. As the painter would still need to control the spray pressure, distance, etc. (I'm sure the people that paint can elaborate), this might only be minimally more efficient than without a paint mask.

@Biff's question- I have the same question, actually. For example, I thought the recent Sinbad collaboration toys were painted by Mori, since the style is so different than the current factory paints.

I'm looking forward to seeing (and possibly OWNING) some of the more limited release colorways brought back. I thought most of the rewind colorways have been great (pearl red set, brown booska head). I remember reading that it's Mori's dream that everyone can enjoy his toys. I guess for the collectors who love the hunt, they can search for originals, and for the less-resourceful/with very limited resources there are revisited colorways.

But I wonder if the old-school colorways will be revisited on the sculpts they were originally painted on or will they be on different ones? Like the MH-02 colorway done up on a Hone Borg?

    either way, I'm in.

I have to admit, it seems a strange move for a franchise that is so steeped in its own history, but I also have to admit, the painted Red Pearl Chaos is one of my favorite recent releases, even if I missed the Evil alongside it.

I think this is exactly the kind of reaction RxH hopes to get from newer fans.

I believe the side effect is it will split fans down the middle.
Personally, the newer greatest hits do not deter the hunt for the OGs since there are enough differences between them to me.
But I can also understand KC's reaction to move on.
I also don't really comprehend why RxH needs to revisit the past so soon. Its still a relatively young company.

RxH is not the only company though. Even Gargamel is doing so with their upcoming hawaii hedo done on clear pink vinyl as a production run. It does looks good.
Maybe it is a start of a trend?

i think it is OG paint on OG sculpt with a slight twist? maybe done on one of my favourite ME/MH again?

Maybe i am just a happy rxh collector with a lot of my wants already in my collection. So I am looking for new and fabulous releases. (the recent superfest rxh collabs were just amazing)

So yeah, keep reissuing for the newbies :D

That just means save your money for the new releases...instead of quitting altogether. I mean, it sounds like you're thinking RxH is gonna just do re-issues and not do any new releases. I think it will be new releases with 1 re-issue every other month or less. If you think about it, RxH has really only done one re-issue. The milky white burnt marshmallow doesn't count cause it's on a different vinyl base, and I like that one better than the original on solid white vinyl anyway.
You know what....maybe you should just move on. It will be one less RxH collector that I have to deal with ;)

thats the problem with the re releases - on top of low originality due to concept -
they hardly ever reach quality of OG figs, weakening strength of the whole line.

After getting that recent red Evil, I doubt I would spend any serious money on the original one.

I thought you were content with collecting HATE . . . now I see you're collecting toys too! :D (deja vu!)

With so many untapped flecks/base colours/coloured clears/freehand spray/masked/rubbed combos (IMO) re releases kinda suck! As regards someone else getting involved in the RxH creative process/decision making when the RxH market finally seems to have stabilized . . . :|

I don't mind the semi-re-issues (they're not really reissues) since there's ALWAYS a pretty large difference (type of vinyl makes a big difference to me.) Also I understant they're mostly super low runs, the reds aside.

I think as long as he dones't do TOO many (too soon hopefully) than it's not an issue, except to the super-anal collector. I have no "code" or anything for collecting toys, that really brings an adult and arrogant attidue to something that's just dumb and fun. I'm not gonna cry and have a tantrum about it. I honestly would like to own the original Burnt Marsh. Chaos vs. the milky, looks better. The difference is big enough.

I agree on the point of "why waste time on something that's kinda been done vs. making new colors" but tell that to people who collect Bullmark Hawaiian color way based figures. Not really original, huh? But still cool and fun! Why don't other companies get b!tched out for this? Gargamel's doing it now with the Hawaiian Pink Hedoran, Rumble Monsters got a little flack but didn't seem so harsh.

On a lighter note, I want glitter vinyl dogs and a glitter vinyl mini Oni. That is all. It would be cool.

I think the man is giving collectors new and old what they want--or he's trying to. I'm not exactly a new collector or an OG one. I like the new stuff, but I still dig some of the old stuff just the same. If I decided to give a million dollars to some guy for an original OG limited release, how does that help Mori now? And so far, it seems that he has only tapped into the limited OG stuff--stuff that a lot of us want, but will probably never have. and as BD pointed out, the vinyls are different types so if it's not your thing, just don't collect it--there's plenty of new stuff always coming out--including limited secret releases. I would guess that the fan base today is a lot bigger than it was 4-5 years ago, so maybe he's trying to let us in on the fun since it would be almost impossible otherwise. In then end, I feel like he's doing a shitload for all types of fans and for that, I am grateful (and I'm having way more fun doing it!)

Why can't people just like a release because it looks cool regardless of it's lineage or significance in the RxH canon?

    Some days, man....

I actually think the re-ish Burnt Marshmallow Chaos is better than the OG.
    Am I alone in this?
It's the only one of the "re-issues" I'd say that about so far,
though the Red evil comes close.

Btw, Can we call them "REVISITED" instead of reissued?
There is plenty of precedent for this in the JP vinyl world.

Here's the other side of that.

The basic reason I collect vinyl toys is for just the reasons you say, because they're appealing in appearance and fun to acquire and to display. On the other hand, I also collect them because they represent a form of art, are, in fact, part of an art movement. I'm getting a (mostly) hand-made piece, designed by a sculptor, molded in limited quantities, painted and in some cases signed by the artist or artists. Not only am I enjoying what I'm doing, I'm also patronizing the artists and, through them the arts. I think it's important that art be encouraged. We need more of it.

Now, suppose I could get the exact same toy, rolled off on an assembly line in units of thousands. Looks the same. Might even cost the same.

Am I going to purchase variations of it because it's cool? Nope. (And not just because the rarity factor as been removed, although that also is a part of it. Every collector likes to have rare pieces.) There's lots of cool stuff out there. I'm not going to put my discretionary income to bolster a manufacturing company when I could better spend it on any number of artists who are hard at work, displaying courage, in any number of fields.

    I'm just saying....

that's because companies like Bullmark decide to release after 20-30 years as an anniversary "revisit" version?

having a classic color like hawaii in different vinyl makes sense. acceptable by everyone here since these colors are tribute colors from classic toys in the kaiju world and Gargamel are not "regurgutating" their own past releases or designs because they are the most wanted either. thank goodness they have Koji to represent the english speaking business side of Gargamel.

it's only a re-ish if it was exactly the same. i think of them as a variation of the OG. i like the milky marshmallow.

technically yes. besides the milky vinyl -
in this case the spray is lighter and cover less area of the head.
    scarf is smaller.
eyes color and kind are different.
