going to boston for like... 2 days. anyone from there have any suggestions of where to go or eat or whatever?
Show up at my shop with a fistful of money to buy some of my kick ass customs!!!!!!! ... Plenty to do in the city. You can get anything you want accepy kaiju toys.
Also hook up with Josh Bernard from CollectionDX...! http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006/ ... dx-in.html
i didn't know you were from Boston. there's a ton to do rhino. when are you going to be in town? are you vegetarian or vegan? as far as toys go, it's a bit limited. some of the Newbury Comics stores carry Bandai and max Toy stuff, and occassionally the odd secret base figure, but nothing in the way of major toy shops. favorite restaurants of mine are all over the city really. bartley's or flat patties (like in n out with the sauce) in harvard square for burgers; for Japanese food, Bluefin in Cambridge is pretty good and if you want higher end sushi with the matching price tag Fugakyu in Brookline is best; for dim sum we go to the huge place on Washington St which I don't recall the name of but I'll find out for you today, Windsor Cafe is also good for dim sum but more expensive. For burritos, I'd say Anna's is best. They have like five locations, but it won't be the same as where you're from. Boloco also isn't bad, but it isn't authentic mexican food for sure. Thai food, although I don't eat it, is best from what I hear at Pepper Sky in cambridge. There are also some indian food buffets in Central Square in Cambridge. i can find out what's best. There's a starter for you...let me know what neighborhood you'll be staying in and I can try to come up with some better ideas
thanks for the info!... will be there july 4th weekend (any interesting things for that event?). the more touristy the better let's see... hotel is on congress street. and i like meat & i'll be sure to try out some of those restaurants. what food is boston known for? clam chowder?
congress st eh? well for the fourth, we're all going to watch the fireworks from the mass ave bridge. the nationally telecast fireworks and pops concert is on the esplanade along the charles river. people start lining up at 5Am for a prime spot, but we go to the bridge because we don't like wasting the whole day baking in the sun. congress st is big, but very central to a lot of touristy things. faneuil hall has a lot of shops and a ton of places to get food, skip the irish pub that is there though. the food is mediocre at best. there is a HUGE food court here with a lot of stalls as well. the freedom trail is pretty cool as well as super touristy. you can pick up a map when you get here and it has Paul Revere's house and other points of historical interest, and it's free which is nice. the museums along the way aren't but it's a nice walk to see the city. if you do the freedom trail and walk over to the north end, walk over to Hanover street which has a lot of restaurants and bakeries. Mike's Pastry is pretty well known here for having great cannolis, but Cafe Graffitti across the street is excellent for their cappucino that has chocolate shavings on top. you can also do a duck tour, which sounds insane but is a ton of fun and the drivers are really knowledgeable about the city. http://www.bostonducktours.com/ clam chowder is huge as is seafood. a good place for you to try that is very central to congress st is the barking crab on northern ave. it's good, kinda divey, but a little pricey. the quality is good though. you can also try the union oyster house down near faneuil hall. as i recall it's the oldest operating restaurant in the country. we'll be around most of the day saturday if you feel like meeting up for a beer or something. you're also welcome to come hang out for fireworks, but the city gets really chaotic on July 4. good weekend to come...there will be TONs going on!
If you want touristy you can't beat the fireworks on the esplanade with the Boston Pops and 2 million of your closests friends. edit: atease, you beat me to it.
thanks alot for the info atease... i'll be sure to check out your suggestions. wish i was visiting back east a little longer, but it's only for the weekend (& the farthest east i've been in the U.S. so far has been Las Vegas)
no problem! drop a line if you're out here and need info on anything! looks like there might be the odd rain shower this weekend, but for the most part the weather is going to be great! have fun!
hey thanks for the tips for Boston atease... hit up most of the spots you suggested. Bartley's looked cool, but unfortunately it was closed but flat patties was good. Now I can say i went to Harvard.... and blessed their toilet in the science building. amazing how many people go on the duck tour... had to get tix on my second day in the afternoon, was pretty neat though. surprised how clean the subway was & how popular cannolis are.
oh i'm glad you had a good time! boston is a lot of fun! Bartley's is closed on Sundays unfortunately. Oddly enough, we were in Harvard Square sunday as well, but we went on the cheap and ate at a burrito joint. cannolis are insanely popular. Mike's is pretty well known and a lot of suburban folks come in to the city and have dinner out that way and get cannolis after. flat patties is definitely a keeper though. we found that place by accident one night. $3 burgers are a-ok with me. the subways are clean eh? i don't know if i want to see SF subways now...hehe...
SF subway(BART) was extremly clean when i went there and so much more fast and effeciant compared to the run down T
u serious? i've smelled some funky shit on bart... and their seats have fabric. the cleanliness of the stations vary, but i would not enter any of the bathrooms. maybe it was because I was there on a holliday weekend but the T seemed very efficient and i never had to wait more than 3 minutes (aside from the bus to the airport... which i waited like 1/2 hr.) for a train (as opposed to up to 15 minutes for bart)
