Decided to go a movie and beat the 100+ heat today - so we went and saw the new Pirates movie. I don't feel like I've been that let down by a sequel since the second Matrix movie. It had it's moments, but overall it was sort of an "eh" film. At least the theater was nice and cold.
it was pretty awful. i saw a matinee too (big fan of the first film) i didn't actually get involved in the movie (go suture!)) for one minute. kept thinking my ass hurt. Plot couldn't have been more confused or diluted. action scenes were super fun, as expected, but that didn't help one bit. Effects were fun even if they looked fake. oh well, we all know sequels are next to impossible to pull off, but this was fantastically lame. (go "Aliens")
I went in thinking it would just be a set-up for the third movie... I actually enjoyed the "twist ending".
oh yeahhh twist. guess i saw it coming? hopefully they can save the third with great acting and charisma
sequels are tough to make because they seem kinda like a bridge from the first to the conclusion. the good ones succeed at moving things along while providing some kind of conclusion or resolution by the end. Bad ones just seem to meander along and leave you with a serial type ending... I think Pirates is a bad one... but my two daughters think I'm nuts so what do I know?
i'd say i've been ruined by too much film theory, but i really don't think so. i still love really well made, fun summer movies like the first Pirates. #2 just doesn't make the cut. still have hope for #3 though you never know? lol
i heard from alot of my buddies that #2 seemed like 2&3 could've been one movie and they wanted to suck the $$ out so they just made to a very big lead in into 3... I didn't really dig the first one though..
