edit: Point of Entry era Priest vid - wow, Rob looks HOT in those TITE pantz.....

edit2: Every Rose Has it's Thorn -can it get much better?????

Oh My God...this has been too great: Just saw Mother by Danzig,

and then teh classic "I love it Loud" video by KISS. If only Gene weren't such an a-hole.

I never watch so-called music television - but this has been a treat. More to come. I'll keep editting this thread as the good stuff comes up!

edit99: ulp! Queensryche. All I remember was teh first ep, Queen of the Reich...this one was a bit wimpy :(

Thank god for Twisted Sister, and "I want to rock":

Which "Mother" video? The boring live one or the awesome and "artistic" black and white studio version? Sounded like fun, I love VH1 when they bust out the metal vids too.

Vh1 classic has a show called Metal Mania, which is pretty much just hair metal videos straight through. it's on almost every day.

I really don't like how VH1 kinda leads people to believe that this stuff is "metal" however. then, when I talk to older people or "regular" people or anyone who's not really familiar with metal, this stuff is what they think I listen to when I say I like metal. they think Poison, not Cannibal Corpse. they think Cinderella, not Darkthrone. they think Ratt, not Suffocation.

that's probably good that they think that, to a certain extent, but....

that's usually why I don't tell people that I like metal.

Rather than being connected to hair metal, when I say I like metal most people I talk to think I mean Disturbed or Korn..... :? I'd way rather think I like hairmetal than that.

Motley Crue Tours I have enjoyed:

Too fast for love - great chunky songs
Shout at teh Devil tour - great outfits and stage set
Theatre of Pain - great upside down hydraulic drum solo!

it was all downhill after that......

PS. To me metal was always all about the NWOBHM...Saxon, Maiden, Diamond Head and also rans like the Tygers of Pan Tang and Samson, but I did like teh pop-metal of the 80's...but its like candy - too much is a bit sickening.

on the theater of pain tour tommy lees kit just tilted to a 90 degree angle. on the girls girls girls tour it went up in the air and rotated 360 degrees where he drummed upside down. and in new haven it broke and he came crashing down. unfortunately the parents would not let me go to the mean streets of new haven to see the show. i only saw them at the hartford civic center.

I love me some NWOBHM too, don't get me wrong.

    okay, here is my criteria:

there's nothing wrong with hair metal, it's just not really "metal" per se. it's more like "hard rock", which is fine in itself sometimes.

hard rock is about partying and girls and cars and living a fast, rock n' roll lifestyle

heavy metal is about monsters and evil and the devil OR medieval warriors and dragons and evil black wizards, etc.

this completely explains why I never really liked KISS. I remember when I was little I would look at my uncle's records and be like "these guys look awesome! they spit blood and breathe fire and..." and then I would hear the music and it would be all about girls and stuff and I'd be like "WTF?!!!!!"

I had the same experience with KISS, but than I got into glam rock and it kinda snuck in. I think of hair metal more of a Glam thing than anything myself, they're all just cleaned up versions of Sweet and Dolls songs with a faster riff. But overall I agree with that criteria. I never was into Hair Metal, I went from Hammer and Vanilla Ice to Sepultura so there was no bridge really, but I can appreciate it.

Also since I'm a big Mercyful Fate fan I can't knock anything with high pitched screams, but Kings high pitched screams are about Satan not getting laid and drunk. But again, no problem with songs about the later.

mutant, long-haired, axe-wielding barbarian black wizards need women too!

"God of Thunder" - have you ever listened to the lyrics?

"I gather darkness to please me"

"The spell your under will slowly rob you of your virgin soul"

    I could go on.

BTW - I hate hair metal.

that was my first concert...i was 12...man can you believe that was 20 years ago?

ok..so a new question to everyone is...best metal show you ever went to?

Mine would be a three way tie:

Suicidal Tendencies/Exodus/Pantera at the Channel in Boston

Judas Priest/Testament/Megadeth at the Worcester Centrum

Napalm Death/Sepultura/Sacred Reich at the Channel

haha..yeah those were the good old days.

or not so good...that ST show was scary. there was a guy in the pit with a razor blade...i steered clear after pantera anyway because i got my butt handed back to me.
there were other shows too, those are the standouts.

the hardcore matinees were so intense though.

you know before they tore it down it was a strip club right? haha

those shows are killer chad! i saw voivod with faith no more and soundgarden once..they were a favorite of mine during the teen years.

i would love to see motorhead though...

Yep, me too. Never liked KISS - their music didn't match their image and was a complete let down. Another band that didn't live up to their image (I'm gonna get shit for this) is Iron Maiden. I'd look at the covers and think "this must be the most kick-ass metal ever". But then I'd listen to it and it was pretty soft - for some reason I also compared them to Rush. (I don't know why, as I never listened to Rush and don't really know what they sound like aside from "Tom Sawyer"!)
I'm now getting Maiden CDs from the library to try to get over my initial rejection of them. I can't bring myself to pay for their CDs, but free burns are alright!
(I've been listening to Witch lately...nice 70s sound.)

whoa whoa whoa, lets not get crazy with this Maiden bashing. Maiden and Kiss are two totally different animals. totally different lyrically speaking.

I would greatly beg to differ that Maiden's music doesn't hold up to their cover art.

best metal show is any of the dozen or so times I've seen pantera.

    clutch/fear factory/fudge tunnel/sepultura (circa 94) is second.

Maiden is what I always expected I guess from their covers.

Best metal show is hard to pick, in recent memory Danzigs last tour was actually a good show, he did that 30 min of Misfits (which sadly was really like 15 min. of Misfits, 15 min. of him trying to explain songs like Die, Die My Darling by saing things like "Uh....this song...I wrote..it's about killing...again.") but he, unlike a bunch of other shows I've seen of his, seemed to be having a good time and actually was singing.

I've seen Danzig so often, and recently he seems to have stopped actually doing his thing and just howled, or did the ol' "talk the lyrics" or had the audience sing, but that last time he actually did like it was 89' and performed and it was really cool.

Ever though, that's tough, I bet the best time I had at a show was Soylent Green/GWAR at the Vic in Chicago, but can't remember the actual performance.
