Do you really think he went and got permission from M1go or Toho ?? I think not.

And I can tell you first hand it does not suck. I actually had him add a few extra black spots. I honestly like it better than the original. As well being done by koji it was done very well and probably better than the original.

Those look different to me. Same colors but different...If he did the exact same, then sure, I think I would find it ethically wrong. But you know Lash, there's some part of you that must feel like copying a toy in the EXACT same way it was produced is a little bit wrong. Maybe not..but I have a feeling that if some asked you to make a Kamen tribute evil, you probably wouldn't do it..even though you know you could.

Don't be confused, in the shot is a replica of the OG and the other is the reverse colors.

Look the OG painted up, its EXACT. When he posted them I though he was selling the factory paint, and I got giddy because it was so cheap, only later did I realize that it was a koji custom.

And I do agree with you, thats why I asked him to add the extra black spots. Although it was a custom by koji and he must feel confident its okay to do it, it was still a bootleg. So I asked him to add some metallics, but in the end we went with just some additional black spots. Subtle but different.

As well I have learned my lesson with bootlegs, ask toybot ;)

To this day I will still say its painted different and was NEVER meant to be an exact copy as I have never even held or seen the original. But others here will disagree. Maybe when I make to S7 in October I can have kirkland brig his and Glenn to bring the original so we can compare the 2.

But yes I will never again do another custom thats that close to the original.

i sent you a pm..because.. I'm not to familiar with a past work you did or the reference you're referring to.

I just think when people start closely mimiking stuff..the lines MAY get blurred. For instance..what if someone did an exact duplicate of the popsoda you just did? I would be kind of bummed to see someone do that. Kirkland's exohead fucking rules and I'm dying to get one but I would be bummed to see someone do a knock off. Especially because these are true labors of love.
I love seeing new painted toys..some are excellent and some are good..I just think it's an interesting debate to discuss these things.

You sure about that liquid ??

look the same to me, its the contrast from shot to shot as they may have had different cameras or what not. And even if the red is a different shade, its still pretty close I would say, enough to fool someone if it was placed on YJA or ebay and listed as original.

Regardless, its doesn't have to be 100% spot on the be considered bootleg by the standards here. Close enough and from what I have delt with personally, its a bootleg, this IS a bootleg, rather it by Koji or Joe shmoe.

If this went forgiven then that damn evil I painted should be forgiven as well. I MADE SURE the colors where different, close but different. And close enough got me into a world of shit and till this day people break mine and kirks balls. We know its not a boot and was never meant to be a boot, but close enough and the angry mob exploded.

The difference here is that we all know Koji ( and my self included ) have respect for toys and toy makers. Thats why it went forgiven and unnoticed, hell I bought it and LOVE it ( it wont be going anywhere) ,shoot I've been begging him to me the reverse one because another here snagged it.

New people we don't know as a community are subject to question. Thats why his is okay and this .... questionable.

Rich, can't see the pic. try posting it again.

    anyways.....lol.....

it doesn't really matter if the colors are exact or not. No one is going to call out Koji... nor should they. that's why I was saying earlier I love hypocrisy cause it lets one say (or not say) anything they want.

Some bakers of Ciabatta have selective targets for their critical remarks regarding these so-called bootlegs or painting so-called uber rare figures. And that's fine, we must have run out of KR refugees to hammer. lol.....

If we were in elementary school, all this attention would mean you have a crush on me. Liquid, Parks, do you have a crush on Lash and I? If so, I would like Jelly Beans with my next valentine, not those candy hearts.

hahahaahahahahaahah.

Yup. I'd say that's bullshit. Don't care if it's Koji, or Mr. Flynn, or Van Gogh's ghost, or an M1 employee - it's wrong. (Assuming of course the color differences are due to camera differences...and even if they are slightly different, it's still pretty lame...especially considering that it was sold and not done for his personal collection.)

...i like kojis matangos much more than the originals.

do u feel its wrong collecting toys???

what about ron english mc supersizes, kaws companion, chum, new tokyo police figure???
what about moris lucky cats? …unoriginal rip off? doesnt take much leaving away one eye
    …or the shintosans???

to me fascination/creativity of little independent toycompanies comes from
the attitude to do what they want, giving a shit about permissions, rights, etc.

these toycompanies are bootleggers - if u want so.
does gargamel, u.s. toys, etc. have any permission for their vinyls,
that are based on existing kaiju figs???
...manys very similar to original sculpts, painted in the exact same colorway.
sometimes even hard to tell which is original, homage, interpretation or fake ...its all about an "N"

I find the real sofa to be a bit uncomfortable sometimes and other times it feels really great. There is a male and female version of that chair and the sofa as well. That cement LC2 Corbu (Domage a Corbu, grand confort, sans confort by Stephan Zwicky) is more of a reaction piece or a statement as to what the original has become rather than a rip-off. It speaks more about that chair as an icon. It weighs in at a ton and sold for $40K.
    Apples and oranges, perhaps...

I can guarantee U.S. Toys has a Tsuburaya license.

Of course not I wouldn't be here otherwise.

what about ron english mc supersizes, kaws companion, chum, new tokyo police figure???

    …or the shintosans???

I don't see the relevance at all to my original post. You mention companies or people in the business that have toys that are interpretations of existing products and I don't see how English, Chums, lucky cats are relevant to what I was specifically referring to.

With regard to the matango, Koji's matango and the clubtokyo shot are not at all the same where someone would get confused. Side by side...they are different. The gargamel hedolan and huko hedolan? Different interpretations of an existing figure. Both are great...still not relevant to point.
What I'm talking about is a straight up 100% identical copy of a toy where you can't tell the difference. To me that seems wrong. I don't collect Kaws but still..If I saw someone cast a resin duplicate to a kaws dissected and it was painted the exact same as an existing kaws toy where there is NO way to tell the difference...I think that wouldn't be cool. And to me that's different then someone painting on a kaws toy or sculpting their own interpretation of a kaws toy.

Anyway..back to the sdcc stuff! :)
