Major, major grail arrived this week:





Made in China for Banpresto, 2004; 5" tall; hands and tail cast in softer, rubbery PVC; apparently sold (though the foot is stamped "NOT FOR SALE") only in a large blister-carded pack of three figures (the other two were Ultraman and Ultra Seven); flat-out amazing, uniquely peculiar sculpt. I hunted this one for a long while (they rarely pop up on YJA) and I have to say I'm thrilled with it in person; it's on my short list of all-time fave Gara-sculpts, for sure.

Pettibon has always been, and continues to be one of my favorite 2d artists, Hoorah for the mail truck.

 

Love that Pettibon Phaidon, great book (and great editions)!

 

Yeah so far I've been really impressed with everything Phaidon has put out. They have a philosophy that art should be accessible to everyone, and I totally appreciate it. Plus any info that goes with the art, is always interesting, and well thought out. I wish they would publish some books on toys, and lowbrow art.
