With just an homage t-shirt, it could have passed.(for a toy that suck, that is..) Holding an lp makes it lamer than lame.

As I really hate Sex Pistols - if I go on, it will seem that I'm leaning on the KR side. The Dk|KR logo is well done, like S7|Black Flag was.
Was Danzig paid for the sdcc Frankinfigther tribute ?
Same goes for the mini RxH & TNMT, BxH and Venom etc ..
I'm not in a position to give a informed opinion on these legal matters but it raised some questions.

KR are selling Ghostlands, so kids with good taste will end up here eventually.

I find this part the most offensive...
just proves their ignorance... any one who was truly from that time or has an ounce of respect for punk and its history knows that no one would've ever used the word 'mosh'. shit, i dont think i ever heard the word until Anthrax got caught in one. now shitty metal/hc bands throw the word around and stupid kids wear sweatshirts with the 4 letters screened obnoxiously across the front.

    fuck you kid moron

i will play devils advocate here because quite a few jp companies and even s7 have used developed identities as inspiration on a toy release as nefasth mentioned in above. since brian actually posted about this i think he is speaking toward the "cash in attitude" behind the kr toys vs the "respect" of say an initium frankenfighter but that said plenty of people have "borrowed" or "been inspired by" tons of other identities in both the art and design world throughout time. while we know brian has checked in with all his sources of inspiration do we know all the other jp companies did as well (rxh tmnt, bxh venom, secret base did tons of logo rip offs for t shirt designs, etc)? it is a fine line and i guess only the actual creator of the piece can speak as to whether it is a "cash in" or a "respect" based piece. i think it is the nature of what kr has become over the past few years that makes you question the designers motives but who knows. i am by no means defending the kr pieces nor do i actually like them (although i do still like/buy some western stuff) but i'm just trying to pose a different perspective on these.

worhol did it in the world of fine art and fairey has done it all throughout his career and is now making quite a living off of his work in the arts. inspiration vs. imitation will always be a fine line in any aspect of the arts as it should be.

    continue...

Kidpunk is just too shallow. It is just the Kidrobot icon with a mohawk and a tshirt....and that's what makes it punk. It's more like punk poser. There is really nothing to the figure...and probably never will be. There's a lot of ad-hoc, DIY, attitude (towards the mainstream) that's missing in the figure. Royalties aside, the figure just fails. It is just a hollow shell with nothing to back it up. Even a mollusk has more of a backbone. Maybe not paying royalties is their way of being punk and saying FU to the establishment. ;) There isn't much to say cause there isn't much to talk about....and yeah...Kidrobot's icon has roots in punk rock?
Do we know for sure that Kidrobot has not asked permission?
Frostie Beats...is okay. It is a bit too literal and they probably wanted it to go more tongue-in-cheek but I don't think they pushed it enough. The arms and legs just don't really work with the cube shape. Maybe a different shape of ice would have worked better. The beatbox is pretty crappy and there's no excuse for that. It doesn't fit with the character.

Let me expand on what I feel as well. I think everybody is being nice about this by even giving it some sort of credence by saying they're ripping off the punk bands. That's beyond the point..
It just sucks. This just reminds me of all the shitty "punk" kids I knew in high school..

Mohawks, safety pins and anarchy symbols does not make a person "punk".
Neither does owning a black flag record.

Just saying they missed it completely and it offends my eyes to look at it. Stick to what you know.

Isn't this just another "pop" release? Isn't that what platform toys are all about?

Did Warhol ever pay Campbell's Soup or Brillo? What about Maryln Monroe or Liz Taylor?

Yeah KR releases crap but isn't that always the same story related to tributes?
What about Kozik's tribute to Clockwork Orange? Did Kubrick get paid?
Or Michaell Lau's tribute to Kubrick too?

I wonder if Kaws paid Michelan, Star Wars, Simpsons, Spongebob?
Or Real Head's tribute to Sesame Street?

Who has more right? Someone who puts money in your pocket makes it ok?
Does your competitor to your business also have the same right to play?

Isn't being punk all about breaking the rules? :)

I'm so glad I never was into this type of stuff. I never had that "crossover." It was REAL nerd toys (star wars, universal horror) than into Kaiju/Neo-Kaiju/Fight Figures.

What pisses me off MOST is when I mention I'm into Japanese vinyl toys (recently I've changed that description to "Japanese Monster Crap" to avoid this mistake) people think I mean THIS crap. A lot like punk. I don't ONLY listen to punk and hardcore, but when I mention I AM into it I get connected to either just the Pistols or Green Day and Offspring.

BEYOND all that, the lack of working with the bands to expose their image more is about as bad as it can get.

I usually don't care enough about KR's junk one way or another to base an opinion. It's so bland I can't even "hate" it, but the overall lack of honor behind this move is low.

I KNOW, with the Star Wars at least, the answer is YES.

You cant compare corporations to people like black flag. sorry.

I am or am not whatever you think I just said. I am just happy I am disappointing you.

Well I am sure someone from the other side of the spectrum would think the Real Head tribute is lame. Does that make it my opinion? No.

My point is that all this finger pointing or authority doesn't make the topic at hand any less credible. All it does to me is question the reasons for this topic to come up. It's so obvious for those in the know will not buy this toy so why bring it up here.

Like making silhouettes of Star Wars characters to sell and brand as tshirts and wallpaper is another oldest trick in the book that usually people turn a blind eye to when it comes to busine$$.

i'm not punk, but i know what true punk is, and i never once linked punk and kr together, so i can see where this might get one of these :x and a few of these  .
i probably don't have to worry about kr treading into my cowboy turf......what a minute, they robbed that from the start with the tag 'Western!'
