Oooooh, I was just about to add that coming in the winter (especially January or February) is not such a 'nice' welcome for someone who hasn't been here before. But it hasn't been that bad actually the past few years. And really, it isn't anything you can control of course. It'll just make the warm weather seem that much nicer!
I just started looking for an housing, even if it's too early to actually contact anyone. Do you guys have some tips to share when it comes to housing ?
As a non-Montrealer, one of the things which confused me trying to find a place was the descriptive system used. The breakdown is thus, consider the bathroom to be 0.5: 1.5 = bachelor 2.5 = bachelor with separate kitchen 3.5 = 1 bedroom ....and so on. BUT, be very careful with reading the descriptions and checking out as many photos as you can, because they are definitely overly generous (and some outright fraudulent) with how they describe the number of rooms in an apartment. For instance, many 2.5 are actually bachelors, and many times they will call a kitchen separate, even it is just a counter. Not cool. There is a lot of exaggeration here, and landlords/renters will take advantage every way they can I have found. And check what type of heating and if it is included (not that you can control it, but it is good to know, and can really affect your utility bill). The other prime thing I advise is that here the appliances (fridge, stove, etc.) are not included as part of the rental, so many time there won't be any. Since generally no one has their own, this can leave you in a bind. Check first. Many other tips to give too, but most are general to apartment hunting. Been through a lot, and never lucked in to an ideal place yet.

Anybody down for another MASK get-together? Hit a terrasse on a nice day maybe now that summer is around? My place is kinda small for massive groups, but I could host a monster (or general bizarre Japanese) movie night maybe too. You'd be surprised how many folks I have fit in here for some hockey games.
I do want to make a trip to the city to check out the Star Wars exhibit, but need to finish my writing before I can leave town I think.
Oh, that isn't what I had heard at all Oli, thanks for letting me know. Might end up saving me a lot of money and hassle in the long run.
I think Steph went and liked it... Steph? None of the three adults that went with me really liked it either. The kids did.
While this thread has been claimed by the Frenchies, time to throw my hat in. : ) Leaving Vancouver and migrating East in July. Will be staying in a small town about an hour outside Toronto. Hoping there are a few more things going on that side. Once i'm moved in and have a car, i could be tempted to come up to Montreal every now and then, assuming you guys will permit anglo-based kaiju in your waters.
Ah ok. Not sure. Close to Toronto, which is always good! I just spent two years in Hamilton. Its proximity to To was its saving grace. ...and I'm in Ottawa, so pick me up on your way to Mtl!
I really enjoyed it but yes, it's quite short in a way, if you don't stop by to read stuff at every steps. The kids loved the interactive parts, the props not so much. It's expensive because we pay for entire family Oli ; ) Comic fest is up in Parc Lafontaine over the weekend - I'll be there saturday. http://www.fbdm-montreal.ca
I'd stop by, since it is just down (well, up) the street from me, but since the website isn't also offered in English I am obviously not welcome there.
We have to deal with the fact that the Organizer is a mega douchebag. But, DQ will be over and other members of the Other Solitude too, so you're OK I'll PM you before I get there if you want.
