Did a little digging on Instagram. These Jinmenken were sold by Awesome Toy, a collab between them and Blobpus. Longneck's "Sith Maijin" I forget the name of the company that makes these... I think it's something like Roughneck? Blobpus x Dol Roffo No idea who makes this, but the post said it was called "Gotanda". Posted by Leo Sofvi Bouya, along with the others with the same border. Called "Meguro". I'm awful with names, I think these are the Figlab figures, with what looks like a Paul Kaiju Mockpet and Awesome Toy's Loch Ness Monster in the background. And I TOTALLY see an Unchiman's foot there.
Ya the pics I have seen so far came from Instagram but thanks a bunch for posting them here! Saw a few of those plus a couple from the Rampage booth that had some great MVH Trolls. Ilanena had some Sofubi lambo Countaches that I absolutley love for some reason lol
Those turtles were awesome - about a 11000yen price tag.. I spent half an hour deciding whether to pick one up or not (hefty price tag vs. TMNT being my childhood favourites) and finally decided to buy one only to find out they weren't for sale - pre-order only! I imagine licensing is going to make it hard to get these out of Japan - hopefully a few end up for sale here and there.
Wow, those Dune Turtles are absolute must-haves. If their track record with the Street Fighter sofubi is any indication, we are in for some incredible toys. My only hope is that their vinyl base colors are all slightly different shades of green like the old American action figures.
Thanks for the awesome coverage once again Andy! Definitely agree that Yamanaya and US Toys both killed it as usual! The Ninja Turtles and Blobpus were my favorites outside of the Yama and US selection. Pretty bummed that Uzumark nor Utsigiyo were there, was really hoping to see some stuff from them since they seem to have been teasing with some stuff for quite a while now. All in all looked like another killer show.
I would love one turtle with a weapons pack, so that I could pretend I had all four. I have been crazy about TMNT since I read the original mirage comics when I was 8 years old.
Thank you for the coverage. That GID bullmark godzilla is absolutely huge and gorgeous, I'd kill for that. Jetture is also doing a super solid job, I really want to get one of those hammer-heads/the mini Kai thunders.
Andy, thanks for your great coverage as usual. Always so appreciative at your efforts to share these 'fests with the rest of us. Two things immediately jumped out at me from the offerings shown from this SF. Firstly, given my obsession with all things KZ, and equal parts Red King addict, my heart leapt out of my chest when I saw this: Simply astounding. What I wouldn't give for this in a painted up version of this fellow in my house. Seriously, nearly all of my collection. I am in love. And, as a complete surprise to me, I am extremely excited to see what M1 has planned for this. I love Kittyfire, and while they already have a very excellent version in the Yamanaya Bullmark repro (which M1 also collaborated on), I look forward to seeing what Yuji does with an original sculpt. Also, he looks huge.
TMNT dolls rock, that Vader Majin rocks even though the tribute has been done to death. And I love the Science Patrol stuff. Thanks for posting these Maddie, and thanks to Andy as always. Who among you were old enough to be into the b&w TMNT comics before the cartoon and merch ever came along? I remember ordering back issues from New England Comics as a wee lad. Wish I had kept those early comics, I bet they are worth a fortune now. Nerd bragging rights! :lol EDIT: yes you are right John, U.S. Toys slayed! Forgot to mention them.
I love what Science Patrol is doing. Small, affordable yokai and other... crazy stuff. That Trunkie Shrimp is just too damn funny.
I was right on board with the original issues as soon as they came out. I remember me and my friend Jeff picking up the first ish at our fave comic shop, several towns away, Fat Moose Comics & Games. We were instantly, completely in love. It's hard to convey now how unique those books were at the time... gritty, weird, with an oddly enticing print format, seemingly coming out of nowhere, and all wrapped up in this overarching, ridiculous "funny animal"-based concept. I've always looked at the popularity of TSR/D&D/Dragon Magazine, etc, as a precursor to the early success of the title- there are some commonalities, and everyone I know who got deeply into TMNT in that first wave had also been big into RPG. I gotta say it jumped the shark pretty quickly for me after those first issues.... though I did revisit my love of it in going see the first movie with my mom and young sister when it came out, years later. If there are actually TMNT fans out there that have never checked those first issues out, you need to.
Yeah they were definitely unique when they came out. I recently picked up the colored TPBs for nostalgia and really enjoyed going through them, although not quite the same with colored panels. The original b&w turtles comics were the gateway drug for other and/or weirder b&w fare vis a vis their frequent crossovers-Usagi Yojimbo, Cerebus the Aardvark, and Flaming Carrot Comics. All of which I still enjoy to this day. I prefer all three of those titles to the original turtles actually. Stan Sakai is still doing amazing work. Folks should check out Cerebus if for no other reason than the background art. That, and, you know, to read about how a drunken barbarian aardvark becomes the pope.
We have some things in common, Michael! FC is like a patron saint to me. Stan Sakai, I feel so much love (and sympathy) for that guy, though I stopped reading Usagi Yojimbo years ago. I am perpetually embarrassed to admit that I have never read Cerebus.
Flaming Carrot is my favorite comic of all time. It is just complete insanity from start to finish. Cerebus, I would recommend the older ones. The artwork is phenomenal in the later issues but the story goes off the rails and just keeps on going into oblivion. Reading the later ones is the comic book equivalent of self-flagellation.
Wow, so many nice figures, but these two are my favourites so far - and boy, would I love to add these to my collection... Great coverage by KK again! Besides there's also been another release of the "Sour"?! At least there's another new one up for flippin' on Yahoo.
