I just uploaded Super7's SDCC exclusives to Rotocasted. If you aren't familiar with Rotocasted, it's a visual way to display (and eventually trade) your collection (and toys you want). The project is headed up by Sergey Safonov out of Moscow. About 3000 toys are up there so far. It's more heavy on western toys at the moment, so start uploading your Japanese vinyl. I'm a "volunteer librarian" and helping build the DB. It's kind of addictive, yet zen-like actually. Favorite feature: sorting toys by color green.

Here's what's been uploaded so far for Super7:

    And start from the beginning:

I gave you a better pic up above that kind of shows how it works. Like I said, it's currently western toy-heavy, but that all changes based on who is involved and what gets uploaded.

if you guys don't like it, why don't you go upload toys that you like. it's just a database/library. at least that way, there will be something to look at. when kaiju taro switch to what it is now, people started saying how sad it was that all the old pics are now gone. well....now is your chance to add to an existing database. don't want to share a db with western toys/urban toys? then how bout you guys start one for eastern toys and we can all chip in. that way we will have a record of toys that we all like.

right...that's a record of mostly your toys or toys that you've come to own at some point. i'm talking about a record of every toy that we all collect. people would register and add to the existing database...exactly like Rotocasted except it would only be for the toys that we like (cause some people on here don't like to mix their eastern toys with western toys. hell, people on here don't like to mix their vintage with their newer toys). people have talked about it but no one has really done anything about it (i just don't know how to set one up). Clubtokyo is around...but there's no RxH, Secret Base, Gargamel, or anything like those companies in their DB. it would be like the Mook...except it will be ever expanding.

For me..this has nothing to do with not wanting to share a database with western toys or urban vinyl.
I'm just sort of lowkey in how I collect toys. Databases are fine but flickr and the rumored super7 datebase is enough for me.

As far as kaiju-taro....I was bummed because prior to the switch you could bookmark sold out toys and if they got it in you would get top priority.

    Is there a search bar?
So if the toy is already added to the Toy Library, can you add your own?
All I see are thumbnail pics of toys.
I can't click for more detail and info?

i'm all about having a database.
and sharing with western is not a problem.
hell, while their at it i want to see a "zen-like" db for action figures old and new and junk toys from gumball machines.
flickr rules, but being currently without a computer or internet at the moment, i usually hit up the parents comp and they have this annoying censorship going on, every page a view i have to put in an override password. :x i can't wait until my comps fixed! sorry about the tangent....

Ah ok. I applaud the idea of what's being done.
As this just started, I'm sure there are a lot more work on the site.
One thing, definitely could use drop down menus instead of listing all the tags.

    Urban Vinyl Wiki?

If you click the pic, you should be able to see more info like artist, edition size, year of release, manufacturer, material.

Do you mean if there is already a pic of the toy, but you want to add a better pic?

Joe since you use Flickr, you could add to the DB just by using tags on your existing photos from your collection.

I hear what some of you are saying. If you're private about your collection, yeah, there's no reason you would want to join I guess. But as for starting a separate DB...not entirely sure why. Sergey's already done a lot of the legwork. And you could use filters to sort it if you never wanted to see anything made by KR, etc... As with all wikis and community-sourced DBs, it's only as good as the group who pitches in. Many toy companies (including Super7) are sending images to participate. Anyway, was just putting it out there. If you're not into it, you're not into it. If you are: awesome.

Weird, it's not displaying correctly then for me in FF.

    Yup.

But yea, like I said, the site's cool.
The majority of toys on there definitely aren't for collectors here.
However, as Jeremy has said, I can see a lot of companies pitching in to catalog what they have put out.

Funny you should ask, because that's how I got involved with Roto. Except for me I wrote in asking who the heck was "CathieOlivas." This site is mainly the work of one guy with a full-time job and English is not his first language, so snark is OK, but so is cutting him a little slack. Cleaning up the tags and fixing the searching are all on the to-do list. In fact, if you see egregious errors, feel free to PM me and I'll put them on his list.

i say we just use this guy's db and blast it with all the eastern vinyl, commercial/promo toys, die-cast toys, and everything else that we can. why not...he's already got it set up.

Hmmm. I'm in FF too. Could be the site is undergoing maint. I don't think you have to be a member to view stuff.

I bet if you sent photos directly to him, he would be happy to swap out sub-par images. Another thing he is working on is a way to credit photographers, perhaps as meta-data.

right on. the whole site seems cool and a good idea. i just had to find something to make fun of, hence my signature. but yeah, i'll wait around until the site is more up and going. i probably won't add any pics myself, because my photography is similar to horse shit that has been stepped in and smeared across the carpet.... :D
