Bending the rules again for the M1 trikes...
One seller listed all four Booska trikes at once. They are really cute! @Vombie are these all versions of the M1GO Booska trikes? Would've been nice to adopt the whole lot, all are listed as NEW!

Those are the only 4 Booska trikes. The Beams trike version goes nice with the other M1 Giant Beams release.

Thank you @chimply.kaiju Anthony! Your giant Booska is very nice, and I see you have the blue kanegon and clear cocoon! That was the toy that started me down the long and windy road of Kaiju adopting! :D

Some lovely auctions there. That Masudaya Batman was gorgeous, even if he had some condition issues. I am sure the right fan would be very enthusiastic with that. Man, that Tokageron was really nice too. It was a bit rough to see it climb so high, but such is the nature of the best in vintage these days. Not much out there in bountiful supply that isn't going to be fought over, and bump up the bids as a result.

@Sanjeev I thought so too, but great to have a second opinion. Wouldn't bother me too much, but of course, I wouldn't have been able to pay anywhere close to that. I figured there was a fairly hefty premium for the box, and maybe the buyer will ultimately swap out the figure or make one minty one from him, but yes, it was a lot to spend no matter what.

@deafmetal I was watching that missile-firer too, and was hoping he wouldn't go so high, but after seeing one without any missiles command a really hefty end price just a couple weeks ago, I wasn't surprised at all. I love missile-firing toys, and MG is one of the best, but I'll probably have to just admire him from photos.

Pity to see the M1 trikes commanding so high. I can't believe all the ones I missed through the years at a fraction of that price.

LOL...yeah, some of the missile-fires sure pack a punch...AND some vintage launchers can go off without warning! I've been woken up at night by sounds of plastic clattering around on my shelf from random misfires.

Can you guys gimme some advice on what service you use to bid on YJA and to order from the main Japan stores? I used to use Celga but they want a 20% cut on everything.

Isn't this just my luck? I finally had some coin a few months back to actively pursue this standard sized Bullmark Tiger Seven and I searched and searched and none came up for months. I finally just say fuck it as I was halting spending on YJA and get my deposit back. Sure enough the next week one pops up and ends not too outrageously (and with at least one glove)! I have the worst luck with this guy. Oh and to make it even better I got cellulitis in my upper right lip over the weekend (lip is so swollen I look like a freak) and demanded doxycycline in case its MRSA- fun times!

I hope he went to a good home. Sorry about the missed adoption Chris! I am really shocked the Tiger ended so low! He even has one glove too! Normally Tigers with no gloves end up at least at 45000, but i was expecting to see at least in the 500k range. Love those tigers!

I agree with Grace, also think the price is within the range of normal considering that it had one of the gloves, do not worry @Lixx there will be another chance to catch him.

Yeah, my condolences on missing out an that wonder Chris. I had to step back myself lately for other reasons, so I totally missed him too, else i would have certainly offered a heads up. A decent price for sure, sad that one of us didn't take him home (and, as a last resort ;), he didn't join Gracie's striped kitteh armie). A really wonderful toy in a lot of ways. Just consider the silver lining that hopefully the next one to come along when you can throw in a good bid has both red gauntlets.

@Mr. Humphreys @ultrakaiju - Do you both collect the M1 tricycles for all the different figures? I have been sorely tempted by the goji versions (especially that Monster Lab variant, oof!), but I put them on my mental "don't get into yet another sculpt" list, haha. I have had no such success with the standard M1 Bullmark tribute goji though... I'm up to four variants of that lil' guy now! Argh...

Back to vintage, @ultrakaiju - The missile-firing MechaG is such a wonder -- ALL the versions -- giant to mini, I want them all. I was able to gaze upon a complete, towering, golden-sprayed giant MechaG in person recently and it's just amazing. Such a huge figure, and looks like it could provide days upon days of fun. It's so expensive now though that I doubt I will ever land one. Remember that auction last year for just his fists went for ~20,000 JPY, unreal. I would be happy with just the Bullmark reissue of that giant badass, if I could just prioritize enough funds to get one of those!

Mark, you should check out the Bullmark repro versions. They came out a few years back now, and were done in both the classic silver with metallic blue-green chest, as well as a GID version. They are GORGEOUS. Until/if I ever get a giant T-28, probably among the greatest and most coveted toys I have. Unfortunately, they are still not that easy to come by, for fairly obvious reasons considering how great a figure it is - who would let it go. and aren't 'cheap' as such, but you can get a helluva fantastic joyous wonder at a fraction of the price of the original. And it even comes in a stunning box just like the vintage version! :) Trust me, no detail overlooked. And, as an extra bonus, I also recommend the M1 'missile' version. While he doesn't have any firing capabilities, a very lovely toy worthy of standing next to any of the vintage figures.

@ultrakaiju - I appreciate the great recommendation, and now the Bullmark giant reissue has moved up a few more notches on my want list. I have priced them out quite a few times, but they always seem to go for a decent price -- even loose or with damaged boxes. I do have the M1 gold spray tribute figure with the painted missile fingers, which was my "budget" piece to try and get in on some of this greatness. It's a fun toy! I'm also looking for one of the M1 mid-size versions that came in one of those little eggs. I really enjoy collecting M1 reissues as well.

If I get some free time this week, I will have some new photos to post for vintage mail day, which is yet another reason why these great reissues keep getting put on the back burner. Nothing wrong with that though. ;)

I hate to piss in anyone's Cheerios, but while the reissue Mekamachine MG figures are pretty, they're pretty disappointing as toys. The elbow and knee launchers have been removed altogether and the main chest launchers are garbage (the missiles just sorta flop out a few inches). Even a shit-beat vintage one is vastly superior to the new ones. :/

@deafmetal , I only have a Zetton tricycler. I adopted him from the Super 7 store (the original Japan Town location, oh so long ago!). I think it was Josh who showed him to me, and then "cycled" him on the counter top. The ding-ding-ding of the bell got me hooked, and I immediately bought him. Wish I'd adopted a Booska at the same time. I wouldn't mind acquiring a Goji and Booska tricycler at some point, but it just seems so expensive now :x. On the flip side of the coin, I have a decent sized collection of Toygraph Racers as a consolation. They are smaller and very cute, so they are easier on the shelf-space (in terms of display). Which reminds me, I need to soap up the rest of the toys. All the display cases have now been hung on the walls! :D

    @Sanjeev Booo, hissss, boooooooo!

No, you're right Sanjeev. But honestly, it isn't a matter of either or, or even comparison in these cases. The simple fact is the new versions do a decent job of holding a place in collections for folks who might never own - or even get a chance to see - a vintage version. I can really enjoy some B-Club toys that other might scoff at in place of original Bullmarks, and which are sadly ignored for a scant 15$, but I recognise the difference between them, and love each in their own way. In this particular case of course, the loss of a great degree of functionality is a major factor, and extremely disappointing, but I still think they ought not to be dismissed out of hand. I don't think 'repro' or 'reissue' is as good a description in these cases as they are different like you said, and should be taken as such. And at the end of the day, you might not be Usain Bolt, but qualifying for an Olympic sprinting team probably means you are pretty fast.

Marusan Godzilla 1st Period J Tail Soft Vinyl Bullmark
    Went for:15,700 yen
The seller says it's from the 80s
What catches my attention is the shape of the tail and the fact that it has no stamp on the feet.
The painting looks very glossy, it looks like it was painted recently, I do not know if it's a bootleg or a reissue??

@Alebrije - I'm hoping it's an 80's flesh vinyl bootleg painted to look like an original unstamped Marusan J-tail. If you zoom in on the right arm it looks like there might be flesh vinyl showing through.. or it's just the light reflecting. It might also be the first J-tail reissue from '99, but I can't tell from the feet or the vinyl color. Either way, I collect both custom-painted '66 classic gojis and bootlegs. I also have another custom-painted flesh vinyl bootleg on the way to compare it with. ;)

Here is a photo of a vintage transition foot (no stamp) with the rare J-tail:

There, fixed that for you.

It's a tough one to say. He sure looks glossy to me, and a bit of an odd colour. But YJA photos are so hit and miss, it could be just about anything when you get him in hand. One thing there is no disputing is that he is a J-tail. Funny enough I have notice quite a lot of repaints and repairs on vintage toys from YJA. A lot of them are very professionally done, and some you'd have to really scrutinise in person to know I think, but the mere existence of a lot of these lately does have me wondering now, on all those questionable or to good to be true auctions where it is not disclosed. Once again, I am not questioning anyone's scruples in particular, just saying that I had never really considered such touch-ups and stuff in the vintage field in years gone by, but now it seems more common. Anyways, getting back to ol' Goji. If you did adopt this guy Mark, I look forward to the report. I hope that he is everything you hope for, a fleshy base would be really nice! And if not, well I am glad you went in knowing that and are happy with the risk and that you have customised toys anyhow. Boy, your Godzilla collection must be a mountain unto itself I am starting to think. :dam:

@ultrakaiju - Indeed, I am especially concerned when this type of bootlegging or repair work is not disclosed. I have seen a few repaints on the flesh bootlegs or even the early 90's Bandai reissues, but usually the seller is up-front about this. I know that has not always been the case though. This is another great reason to share information here about what we are all seeing.

@Sanjeev - Haha, it's a tough call, especially for an unstamped figure. Supposedly, the original Marusan J-tails figures should be stamped, which puts the above beauty in the realm of suspicion. I wish the J-tail on Club Tokyo had a photo of the feet. It could be a tail swap, or a piece put together from spare parts during the transition phase between Marusan and Bullmark (probably the most likely explanation). It also seems to be in excellent condition, which isn't unheard of, but also makes me think it might not be one of the first Marusan pulls. I also conferred with B. Flynn on this specific J-tail, and he felt the same way. Either way, the seller was asking $5k USD for this figure, and that puts it way out of my league -- legit or not.

I am willing to put up some funds for flesh vinyl bootlegs and customs though. I will post a breakdown soon of the upcoming "Battle of the Bootlegs"...

A bit of a stumper here, so if you have any knowledge of this version of Kanegon, I would appreciate it!
This "Dark" Marusan Kanegon ended at 20500 JPY. If you read the translated auction description, there seems to be some debate if this is a reprint or not. The seller also seems to refute that the color is due to dirt, and mentions that the base is flesh colored, based on the foot. The eyes are in great condition!

Not sure if this is really flesh vinyl? It's hard to tell from the original photos -- I've enlarged them a bit. He certainly looks old, but is he a reprint? I haven't seen this dark version of Kanegon, but then again, I'm still a greenie when it comes to vintage. A bit of a mystery here folks!:dam:

I definitely would've tossed in some coins for him, if I wasn't on a spending moratorium. He's really nifty looking, reprint or not, and reminds me a bit of squid-ink pasta.

@Mr. Humphreys - That is a dark and interesting Kanegon, and one I haven't seen before. What is up with all these recent auctions of "flesh vinyl" that don't really look like it?

This one is way out of my realm, but I'm curious to hear what others have to say. :dam:

@deafmetal thank you very much for the information, I was tempted to bet on this Goji but I am very ignorant about these pieces and therefore had many doubts about it, for me it would have been like making a shot in the dark.
    Did you grab it?
    Best regards!
