I'm looking for a new display and landed on a vintage humidor cabinet. No idea if it still works. Wondering if the environment could damage my dollies. Has anyone tried this before?

Well as long as you keep it dry, essentially it is going to be just a nice wooden cabinet. Great display idea I think.

I'd give it a good whiff inside, too. Personally, I love the smell of cigars, but I could see not everyone liking it on their toys. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ More than likely though it'll just be a nice cedar. Or even more likely, just a cheaper wood that will have no native smell.

    ^^^This.

As a cigar smoker I can attest the smell WILL leach into anything permeable. If it's been used for cigars I'd hesitate to use it for toys.

If there is a smell (aside from wood / cedar), you could try packing it with news paper for a period of weeks (or even months), as the paper will absorb some of the smell.

Also, if it's an actual humidor, there's probably some sort of gasket or seal to help control the humidity, so you'd want to consider if that's worth keeping or removing depending on the smell inside and air exchange. If it's air tight your going to leech the smell into whatever you put in there faster than if you have some airflow / a gap.

    Just some food for thought.

Good to know! It is a real humidor but I believe it hasn't been used to store cigars for many years, maybe decades. Seller says there is no smell, but let's see.

Now he has to accept my offer  I will never again pay the sticker price for furniture.
