Seems to be one or two football fans floating around here. Thought with Confed kicking off tomorrow, we could start a discussion thread.

Any early bets on a winner? Can't see Spain taking it, nor Italy. Unless the Brazilians step up, maybe an outsider will go all the way.

It's going to be an interesting tourney, that's for sure. I wouldn't know who to root for yet.

I'm thinking a Brazil-Italy final, but I would love to see Japan surprise Brazil in the opening game.

I was thinking Brazil-Italy as well. Both teams are gearing up for next year and I feel the spaniards have had a rough league at home, with not enough synergy going on to transfer into the national team.

That said, I would love for Mexico to do well. An upset by Japan would be fantastic, always great to put the giants on edge at the early stages. Some big teams are so good that they are just plain lazy to watch at the early stages.

    stunning goal from Neymar!
I'm really looking forward to seeing him in a Barcelona shirt next season.

Grats to Brazil for the win. They played well and were smart about their game, but I just dont like their style. Neymar tends to hog the ball too much for my taste. I hope Barza can really make make him a better team player.

It was a good match until Japan gave up. I feel they had a chance had they fought a bit more. All in all, very good opening to the tourney.

It was a good opening game, I thought Oscar looked great.
I totally agree about with you about Neymar, he won't be able to spend as much time on the ball in the Barca team.

Japan certainly felt the pressure of Neymar's incredible goal after only 3 minutes… Brazil couldn't have had a better opening match for Confederations Cup: I think the 3-0 win over Japan helps our national team to live up to the expectations of demanding fans. We always think Brazil has a good chance of hitting the finals.

I have tickets for Spain vs. Tahiti, and the final match at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Joga bonito, Brasil!

I will be rooting for my team Mexico tomorrow vs Italy, but I doubt they can win, Mexico has been awfully playing in the WC classifications

It's not easy to win when you have 10 players on their side of the field defending, Mexico's not losing tomorrow, and yes, i believe they will qualify to the WC without a problem ;)

True, with the squad the Mexicans have, they should be having better game and than what they have had so far.

Brazil really needs to step up its game, it's not the same it was ten years ago. You can't win cups with flashy footwork alone, you need better team work, just ask C. Ronaldo. Mexico took brazil for a ride during the Olympics and really dominated that time, I bet they want a remacht of that and I am eager to watch it.

Also, wtf, Spain has the easiest group ever, pfft.

That match left Brazil pretty much untested. Not sure they have enough cohesion and variety in their football at the moment, but time will tell - also interested to see their back line under real pressure - but judging by other teams forms of late, maybe they'll stroll to the finish line.

Happy to see Hulk in the mix though, great forward, even if he doesn't fit the traditional Brazilian mold. And Oscar had a fantastic game. Sunday should be interesting.

@Anna - Awesome that you are going to some games. Must be a great atmosphere there right now.

Also the team that Mexico took to the Olympic games was the second squad, and also earlier last year, Mexico had a friendly match against brazil and won again, Severo Meza (mexican defender) made Neymar look bad, almost unnoticed.

Yes, the atmosphere is so great that I had to visit Maracanã today. Soccer fans were excited with Mexico vs. Italy! And Miki was excited, too!

I wish Mexico had won the match... Now, let's watch Spain vs. Uruguay, a soccer duel!

well Mexico lost, but what to expect with those defense errors  , I hope we can make at least an interesting game vs Brazil

BTW, the team in the Olympics wasn't really a second squad, according to the Olympics rules at least 18 of the players had to be -23 years and 4 players +23

I was super busy today, but I did hear that Mexico played horribly. With a team like Italy, its hard to play a defensive game (which is what I heard)

it is times like this that I really consider getting a TV.

That was a great free kick from Pirlo. I always enjoy watching Pirlo play, he is such an incredible player.
So what club teams do people support?
I'm a long suffering Aston Villa fan.

Psychocarebear you chose all the shitty teams from those leagues. Lol. Or at least the ones everyone hates.

I like Chelsea (since they were crap), Toluca in Mexico and Leverkusen in the bundesliga.

^ totally disagree. I loved watching them play when Gullit was in charge. Zola at Chelsea is still some of the best football i have ever seen.

As for your 3 teams, i support anyone that is playing against them ; )
