As I mentioned elsewhere, this weekend is the annual SUnset Junction street fest in Silverlake. The roads get closed, hipsters, gangsta's, soccer moms and fat men in leather harnesses all mingle together amidst fairground rides, craft stalls, utili-kilts and festival food for a weekend of reasonable priced fun and great vibes.

The bands who play are generally prettty cool, tomorrow the Cramps come out of the grave, but tonight the Eels and BRMC close the show. For me, busy toy sicko that I am, Redd Kross was a good reason to drag myself across town. So glad I did. From where I stood it looked like the classic Neurotica line-up had reunited, and many songs from that album (was it really 20 years ago?) were aired, along with later stuff from Third Eye and Show World. Frosted Flake, Annie's Gone and Jimmy's Fantasy were particular stand-outs. Some young punkas next to me kept screaming for Linda Blair, and bemoaned the fact that this Redd Kross sounded most un-punk. I finally had to tell em that RK hadn't sounded that way for over 20 years, that this was in fact the RK sound that most everyone had come to hear, and that it was highly unlikely that they would play Linda Blair. They were cool about it, and left minutes later leaving just the short kid with the glasses behind.

AAAHHH! I am completely jealous, as is Janet. We love Redd Kross - saw 'em every time they played around here, and they're one of our favorite bands ever. I'd like to hope that they'd tour again, but I don't think that's going to happen. Thanks for the pics, though - it's good to know that they haven't lost any of their charm. I can't believe kids would even know who RK is, much less expect them to play stuff off the first album. Maybe there's hope for the youth of today after all.

Hope you made it down to see the Cramps; I saw 'em a couple of years back and they're still great.

I only stayed long enough to see Redd Kross, even tho Eels were on next. I keep hearing BRMC don't play earlier stuff anymore, and I've seen em enuf times, so I didn't stay. Instaed I sat on teh curb and watched the crowd for a while. I was preparing myself for today (more on that soon).

Haha, the SkullSkates was my ragged can cosy from the 80's, which I stuck on my arm after finishing my soda. Makes a metal looking wristband eh?

So glad to hear some RK love on here. They were one of my favorite bands for quite a while, after reading about them in Thrasher in teh 80's I purchased Nuerotca and LOVED that record. I used to play songs off that CD all teh time on my college radion show.
