Hey all Here is my attempt to give you all the behind the scenes look at Super7 at the 06 comic con. I got no way to do photos today. I will try and get that worked out tomorrow. We loaded up 2 vans this weekend then took off monday for san diego. pretty easy trip complete with van to van pranks, LA traffic and lame rest stop food. We are staying at this strange rental house. my room is pink and filled with horse fan stuff. the convention center was mad house today. so much moving and unpacking. everything is looking good. lots of people not really setting up because they were waiting for product. Kozik was lurking around. DKE toys(a distributor) booth is looking killer. kid robot did not show up at all today. they must be pulling the same set up as last year. our booth went together good. still lots to do tomorrow, but the bulk is done. all of our product and displays showed up which is rad. we packed way to much. ok that is all for now, I am being harrased by my co-workers for writing on this damn site instead of watching anchorman.
when i looked at this post this morning, i had never met ramos, when i looked at this evening in my hotel room, we had shaken hands. you guys, your booth looked great, and you had it way more together than a lot of the other guys. i think you knew what was going to hit, and kept it organized and orderly. great work. i don't want to tell you the horror stories of just trying to LOOK at some other booths. you guys won't care about what i bought, but skylar cleaned up on SB stuff.i'm sure he'll post seperately. we'll be in SD until Saturday Morning, if you see us around, say hi.
The show has begun, and already I am OVERSTIMULATED. Got to meet Isaac and Devon for the first time today, also talked to Brian and Justin, and everyone there is trying to hold up a mountain of vinyl. If there's something your're looking for, folks, it's there. Also ran into Missy and Skylar, and met Cometdebris for the first time. PAUL KAIJU, WHERE ARE YOU?
Preview nite was fuckin' sick! Money flowed like water, but I had enough control to hold onto a few bucks for Pushead!
Okay Roger, let's get some beer into you and put you to bed. (It's funnier with a Marge Simpson voice)
The first full day of the con, and my feet are KILLING me. I need more comfortable (and by definition, more uncool) sneakers. It was great to meet so many Skullbrainers today: Chad, Cesar, gabbagabba (hey), El Maz, KGB, L-Word, DDS, Creaturion, Locomoto566, Mutonismyfriend, and (please accept my sincerest apologies if I met you and didn't remember your handle here, I am old and my brain is enfeebled). A special treat, though, was ambushing international superstar Paul Kaiju as he strode purposefully through the aisles. Thank you, Super7. And, of course, thank you Mr. Pushead. I'll see everyone tomorrow night at the Nerdquake.
The line was super long and all i heard was "single file" when there was no place to go. But it was worth it. It was great to meet Roger, El Word, KGB, my line mates, also Paul Kaiju. And most importantly Pushead himself. Awesome guy, was very patient and signed everything.
So IR - were the hells the rest of the updates ? The "CON" has been going for two days now - don't tell me you not selling things and making moolah hand over fist and getting lots of cool swag. here are my brother from anothr mother? Please don't tell me your too tired...... tonights the party!!!
Yes. On Thursday morning, I was walking to the con and saw a guy handing them out, so I went out of my way to cross the street and get one. Unfortunately it wasn't as entertaining as those Jack Chick comics, but I kept it and later got the idea to ask Pushead to desecrate it. He did, by crossing out every page in it, and then writing that on the cover. It's a cool little memento of this year's show. I shouldn't be awake right now, though. Alcohol screws up your sleeping patterns. I had such a great time at the Nerdquake last night, talking to the Skullbrainers I had already met, as well as the ones I was connecting with for the first time: lostinky, locomoco, NOO-NAN, and Filmy. (Yes, THE Filmy was there!) Paul Kaiju was trying to drum up financial support for his new independent film project, The Wacky Process Server. Some minor conflicts from the board surfaced, too, but they were settled the old-fashioned way: through break-dancing contests. And even though I didn't win everything, it was great to see the frenzy when Isaac was Raffling Free Stuff Off. Locomoco and I pimped a pedal cab back to our hotels. You can't beat the view of San Diego from a pedal cab. I'd give it a perfect 10. Anyway, the con is only half over and I wanted to say that right now, for me it's the best one I've attended because I've gotten to meet and hang out with such fun folks. THANK YOU, SUPER7! I'm hoping that I can attend the karaoke contest tonight. Bring your earplugs.
It runs for a mind (and foot) numbing 5 days... each day gets progressively more crowded and louder. It seems like most the choice vinyl was picked over by late thursday.
I couldn't make it to the karaoke contest today. If I was unable to bid someone farewell, I apologize, but tomorrow I will be hitting the zoo instead of the con. I stopped by the Super7 booth before I left today and the staff looked a little worn except for chipper Chad. He has the cure for SDCC: SLEEP. Speaking of which, my bed beckons. And the reptile house.
Yes, I had to bail on the party. I was bummed but on Thursday I pulled a 22 hour day: up at 4 am in NOLA, at SDCC by 11:30 am Cali time, and bed by midnight but that is really 2 am for me! Then up before 7 am on Friday and con again... I had to be somewhat sane on Saturday because I had lots of folks to see and I knew I'd be wandering back and forth the entire length of the convention center all day. (and I did!)
