    Re: Wind Scorpion

These things! I stayed in this house in mexico that was half open (no ceiling), and there was always crazy shit all over the place inside, Giant Praying Mantis, Scorpions that would run out from under the lazy susan on the kitchen table when you spun it around, a bat in the cupboards, these giant white spiders that were just weird, and the bathroom wall was made out of stacked rocks and whenever you went in if you looked at the wall long enough you could find one of these whip scorpions just camouflaged against it. It was fucked, I would have been terrified if I wasn't drunk all the time.

Sounds like the house from hell. Did you sleep there?

Changed the title of the thread to better fit the great contents you all have shared.

Great thread! During a trip to Borneo last year we finished up going insect watching at night. Here are a couple of shots that I'd like to share, the first is a sting spider but don't ask me who the second fella is  I just remember he was freaking huge!

What's even creepier are the blind pseudo scorpions and centipedes when scientists open and explore "sealed off" caves filled with dangerous earth gasses and acids.

Who knows what else the hell is down there.

    * tbh pill millipedes aren't scary at all but still fascinating.

This thread is giving me the heebie jeebies! OK true story that happened in August. Our apartment was invaded by house centipedes. These disgusting things:

One night my girlfriend spots one on the ceiling near my toys. I get a swiffer out in the hopes of crushing it but only succeed in knocking half it's legs off on one side. It falls behind my detolf and sort of crawls under a tiny crack in the wall. Behind that wall is my bedroom. I go to bed a little uneasy but then again what are the odds of encountering it again that night? Pretty good actually....

So around 2am I was in a deep sleep but feel something on my neck. At first I thought I was dreaming but then I went to brush it off and felt something wet. I never jumped out of bed so fast and ran for the light! Sure enough it was that same exact centipede I injured earlier because it was missing half it legs on the same side AND he was very much alive in my bed. Fucking bastard was coming for revenge. Thankfully I pinned him in a corner where there was carpet and dispatched him with a tissue.

Damn Lixx, the dreaded house centripede! I know exactly how you feel. I was going to post about these guys too. At first I thought that it was a local thing when I moved to Kingston (I've always known them as Kingston-bugs :) ), but have since encountered them in Montreal as well. For any readers unfamiliar with these guys, to give you an idea of scale, I was leaving a pub one night and saw one on the street. So that's how large they can get - it caught my attention at night, outside, after a beer or two.

As Lixx pointed out, these guys are mobile, can climb anywhere, and are fast. And clearly not deterred by the loss of a leg or two (or three or four). As far as actual 'damage' they can do or such, it is more of just an annoyance of something so large constantly scurring around your house. I can't count how many times just relaxing I have caught something out of the corner of my eye, only to turn my head and see one inches from my face along the wall. Sure goes a long way to disturbing the peace. Ahh well, now I have to deal with the Japanese cockroaches, but that is a rant for another thread. :|

I must have a nest of them in my apt because since the 'attack' I've caught two more big ones in that same corner near my bed. Usually just like you, out of the corner of my eye. No way I'm going to bed until it's destroyed. I sprinkled a little salt in a few corners of my apt which supposedly helps.
