Re: s.d.c.c. new Clive Barker movie fwd. no doubt, i saw a trailer to this. midnight meat train has always been one of my favorite short stories. read it a few times in Splatter Punks Vol. 1, and basically forgot about it's existence once I forgot about Clive Barker. Then, when I saw this flick coming out, I got excited. Pulled out the old SP book and read it again!
damn, yet another reason for my tears, since i won't be going. i'd love to meet one of my favorite writers.
I really like this story, but it seems like it would make a really, really short movie. Guess we shall see!
I saw the preview at the theatre a few months ago and people were laughing quite loudly at the title. I'll check it out on video.
well, if it is hollywood produced, they can stretch that stuff. look at SK's Children of the Corn. That short spawned somewhere along the lines of 7 movies...
I've been wondering about this myself. The stills on the IMDB show quite a few scenes that I don't recall from the story. (Then again, it has probably been 20 years since i read the Books of Blood. ) I always thought this was the most accessible of the Clive Barker short stories and the most likely candidate to be filmed. It's going to be pretty hard to screw up unless the director is just completely inept or the writers tinker with it too much. Those are pretty big 'ifs' in Hollywood.
Well in my opinion it's hard to fault the director if this goes bad. I'll blame the Hollywood system instead. They seem to destroy more good foreign directors by stopping any creativity they had as soon as they get to Hollywood. Ryuhei Kitamura did Versus, Aragami, Azumi, Godzilla Final Wars and LoveDeath before Meat Train. While not all of them were as amazing as Versus his style and vision are pretty obvious to anyone who's seen his films. I was really hoping this would do well for him and getting him doing more in the USA but based on how few screens it's supposed to release on I'm not holding my breath for much.
The director's name didn't ring a bell with me.. Apparently, it is 'testing well' which may or may not be a good thing. I imagine garbage like Scream also 'tested well'
