Culture jammer extraordinaire Ron English will celebrate the DVD release of a new documentary film about his work at The Showroom NYC on March 23 from 7-11 p.m. Directed by Pedro Carvajal, the film is called POPaganda: The Art & Subversion of Ron English, and it follows the artist as he shakes up modern society through painting, billboards, and songs. English’s work will be on view (by appointment) in the gallery until March 30th. Copies of the film will be available for purchase at the event, and English will be on hand to sign autographs and speak with fans. A Toy Tokyo special limited edition version of English’s new vinyl toy Big Yang and the Yang Bangers, of which only 60 were made, will be on sale. Also on hand will be his well-regarded MC Supersized and Ronnie Rabbit figures. Prints of paintings and silkscreens will be on view as well. In addition, Morgan Spurlock, director of the acclaimed documentary Super Size Me, which features English’s artwork, will attend.
