Made by Roller Derby Super Bomb - Tarryn Mcdermott through Siccaluna. 5 colors. 3 parts, 2 characters. Tons of one-offs Super weird.
^^ Very cool @MattyBoomBatty Thanks for sharing! Maybe its just the clear vinyls mixed with glitter, but i really like these . . . .
These are great. I get a vintage vibe, a little reminiscent of Charactics too, which is always a good thing. I really dig the multicolored guts. The group of them standing there makes me think of the clear vintage Triple Fighter set with their different stances. And yeah @The Moog I am a sucker for clear vinyl and glitter.
My girlfriend plays roller derby so I gotta get one of these! So, did they get released last year or what? It's kind of hard to tell from the Facebook page, maybe I just missed the info.
As a roller derby official, these are right up my alley. I contacted her via Facebook to see how/when these are available.
Spotted these on IG recently and didn't really know what to make of them. Seeing more detailed info here and the higher res images actually makes me really love these alot. Like what was posted above, they have a real nice retro feel to them. I gotta know more!
Don't tell anyone. There are 300 being sold in America. The blue glitter were prototypes so there are less than 5. The other colors are Rage Red with glitter (Clear), Super I FART A LOT Pink with Glitter (clear), Toxic Glow In The Dark, Unpainted Faces Purple and there are a number of specials such as "Not-at-all-flamingo-Pink", "Anatomically Incorrect", "Cosmic" and "What Goes On Tour..." There are 30 of each color and the two types make 150 of each figure so you won't have a choice unless you buy off the shelf. Tarryn McDermott is talking to the distributor this week so soonish? There have been HUGE problems with this toyline. They didn't pull through the molds and no factory would touch them which completely screwed the international brand Tarryn had created and had a skate contract that 100% relied on us having the product in their offices within 6 months. Bye bye skate contract that would have branded us worldwide. Toys took over 18 months to turn up....they have some clouding issues. Shit happens. We've moved on. However, they are exactly what we set out to make: Super disco insane female sofubi roller derby toy line in crazy colors especially for roller derby fanatics who can't get anything like it anywhere else. Rumble Monsters....who Tarryn and I think is possibly "The Greatest Designer on Earth" gave us tanks. So there are also derby girls in tanks. These pics show the differences from the turnaround sketches by Eric Nilla to the Siccaluna wax then to the finished product which lost A LOT of detail. The top pic shows the clear toys finished product. The two underneath are orange, perfect pulls we never saw in hand. You have to look very closely to see that the toys have very detailed wrist and elbow pads, striped socks, both Tarryn and my names are written on the legs, they have the A.O.I. Toys halo on their backs and a star on their bum. Their faces on the toys are almost completely gone. They have tiny little quad skates which were the problem with the molds. However, we LOVE these. When these arrived it was the best day ever for us because they are GRAVY. They are just that really odd fucking toy and hey, my girlfriend made them....my.....GIRLFRIEND...made...them. That's cool, man.
So, it looks like Tarryn is having further issues with getting a US distributor. I hope she comes to some sort of solution soon, I think these would be snapped up here. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...134.1073741827.100009214933308&type=3&theater
I love these! Sad to hear about all the issues that came up with them, but at least is a learning experience. I hope to get the chance to buy some in the future. Great idea and it totally reminds me of the lines put out by japanese wrestling companies. good stuff!
Next week or roundabouts through DKE everyone. We're on a new sculpt now, probably moving away from sofubi towards something completely different. I really like those old toy ads in vintage comics next to the fake dog doo and X-ray specs with the rubbish plastic "Authentic mermaid replica" statue in the back so we're doing something like that. Something crazy and trinkety. Plastic rubbish you'll find in a $2 store....if I'm lucky. Amazing sculptor though so I'm super excited.
That description sounds incredibly intriguing Matt, so I am really excited to see what you guys come up with. Love those ads too, so many misspent hours dreaming of the possibilities (of what was no doubt crap indeed! ). Those comic ads and the Things you never knew existed... catalogue, man, talk about unfulfilled childhood fantasies!
Its all "long term plans". My partner and I got shitty shit news today and literally and figuratively said "fuck this, enough's enough, lets move to another country and start a new life." So I know the sculptor is busy, he knows I'm not in a hurry and everything is paid for up front so when he's ready he'll do the sculpt and I'll contact China....its not like we don't get 50 factories emailing me a year since I did Seismic Ace a decade ago. They don't let you go. I want to go live in the country and go sculpt giant rocks into ancient heads. Bit tired of city life.
Matt, It seriously makes me sick thinking about how badly you guys got jerked around and how it's evidently put both you and your partner off of independent vinyl toys. Hopefully everything works out with your new endeavor! Also I'd love to join you in that rock sculpting adventure. Always wanted to do that myself!
