Lately, I keep hearing skullbrain OG's talk about the good old days while yelping about the end of times on here.

Thing is though, i don't see much in the way of OG wisdom being parted unto the ignorant masses of late. Have you old timer's given up? is it every skull, women and brain-turd for themselves these days? Where are all these past nuggets of wisdom you speak of?

I would love the OG's to take the challenge of sharing their toy wisdom with newer members. It's something i feel is sorely lacking. I'm relatively new to Kaiju (1 year and some change). I've read the S7 books and magazines, i've watched toypunks and the Toho movies and I dig into the board archives often, but i need more now, and you're just the bastards to give it to me. You gatekeepers of knowledge and hoarders of wisdom.

    so here's the challenge:

Post links to your Top Skullbrain threads of all time.

If enough OGS do this I'm hoping we can have a single thread of much wealth and knowledge for anyone wanting to get schooled in Kaiju. And please, lets have more data than drama in your threads of choice. Not really interested in reading a moldy 50 page thread on why Kozik blows.

or you could just ignore this and keep checking the sales thread

I'm not an OG (Kaiju-wise anyway  ), but I've benefited from many generous and sharing OGs who've taken me under their wing and given me good advice as well as great information. Thank you OGs  ! What I found really helpful was books!

Re: Quite your bitching and share already

Sorry, but this is the dumbest thread I have seen in a while. It's like asking to be handed something that's right there for your own taking. Do a little (no, a lot) more research. If you're passionate about this hobby, then learning about it should be fun, not sound like a chore that you need help with.

Why not browse the forums and sub-forums past the first three, twenty, fifty pages? And what kind of 'nuggets of wisdom,' are you expecting from this, anyway? I honestly don't get it.

Edit: Hurray typos (and to think I was going to correct the title).

Re: Quite your bitching and share already

Best way to do it is this:

    1) Find a forum you like
    2) Go back to the last possible page you can
    3) Work your way back to the present
    4) Bookmark threads you like
    5) Along the way if you keep finding toys/ posts by certain people hit their profile
    6) If they're still active here and you have questions- pm them

I've done this so many times and you really get an idea of how this board developed over the years. Plus you would be surprised how many people are helpful by just pm'ing them. I recently pm'd a vintage guy a month or so ago with questions and not only did answer all of them, we had a lot in common- got on well, and he even sold me a toy. People are a lot friendlier than you think.

I read through 100+ pages of the Real x Head thread before even joining this forum. shame that a lot of the image links are broken now but just seeing the excitement over each release really puts things in perspective for relative noobs like myself.

I know a lot of people used photobucket back in the day. My account went over the limit just by using a gif once here. Personally since I resurrected my pro flickr account, whenever I find an old thread with missing pics I posted I try and reinsert the images.

Good to see a misplaced 'e' can still get someone's righteous fury going. fixed just for you banshee.

I don't see how my request is dumb. I do like this hobby and love reading old threads and none of it is work. But it's a big fucking forum. All i'm suggesting is that people share some thread links. I'm sure there are threads that people have missed and a simple link would help them greatly. You make it sound like i'm being totally unreasonable.

Honestly, often, the attitude I come across here when actually trying to learn about this hobby totally fucking sucks.

I kind of like the idea of everyone posting their favorite all time thread but not for the sake of making searching easier and most of them would be toy brand threads that are easy to find. Moody does have a point though in that new people are given this image of old school SB that isn't really accurate. From all my searching and to the best of my knowledge, there was never a time when every single post was a quality piece of information and only advanced the thread. From what I can tell reading back there were always inane comments to some extent, always assholes and nice guys, always people ogling over each others finds and certain new releases. There may have been less "pm'd" or "+1" type comments but they weren't non existent as best I can tell. The one thing I can agree with though is that there was a lot more knowledge being shared. I think part of that though is that there were more things to discuss for English speaking sofubi collectors and now most of the long time members either know these things or use the search function and track down the info. Is there really much to impart about Gorilla-ju that you can't just read in the thread? Not really. There is tons of info about companies like Gargamel or RxH but what's the point of repeating things when you can simply read back. I am rambling now and probably have gotten off point... but yeah, that's my 2 cents.

I guess I just don't get what you want. You wan't a thread of "wealth and knowledge"?

How about this? A whole forum of wealth and knowledge.

    http://skullbrain.org

Use the "search" option for your specific needs.

    You're welcome.

this sounds great Lixx, and I will do it, but isn't this all the more reason to have folks share some of their favourite book marked threads? i'm sure many would benefit. I'm not shirking the amount of work involved, I just don't see why all the magic should be happening in pms or through self-discovery alone.

akum6n beat you to the punchline. Why don't you at least read the thread comments before throwing your snarky little 2 cents in.

I think this thread sums up what many of the "oldtime" SBers have a problem with. The desire and feeling of being entitled to all the info available being readily shared with new members.

Maybe there was more sharing back in the early life of Skullbrain. But there were a lot fewer competitors back then too. Make no mistake. Although we have comeradery and do much to help one another, there is competition in this hobby. Sharing all the secrets, tricks and knowledge acquired by older members over the years is great and all. But shouldn't new members have to jump through the same hoops, show the same dedication and willingness to do the research that all the OGs had too? Some of this hobby is earned. Not just handed to you. If you want the OG wisdom- don't make a thread asking for it. Put in the time, research, talk to other members, etc. In time you'll have all the knowledge you need.

I can understand both sides. When I was new, I wished I had access to some of the stuff I know now. I STILL wish I new some of the secrets I don't. LOL. But then and now I understand how frustrating it would be to share some choice secret and then have access to a limited item cut in half by an influx of new people buying up the rare toys I wanted. Or helping someone acquire a rare toy and then seeing them flip it for the flavor of the week.

    Just my 2 cents.

    Honestly, this is getting ridiculous,

asking folks to share some favorite threads is somehow being equated with trying to fast track your way to the pearly gates of kaiju heaven.

The whole idea was to share some favorite threads, that's it.

Obviously it's an absolutely terrible idea that smacks of the kind of foul perversion that is currently infesting skull brain.

But you make a point, seems like the community aspect is not quite as advertised, very well, each to their own then.

This is why no one wants to help newbies. Perfect example. The sense of entitlement, laziness and butt-hurtedness is unbelievable.

Life doesn't hand you anything without effort. Why should it be the same here? UGH.

Gave up long ago. Try every so often to have it bite me again. Sometimes we never learn. Your thread wouldn't have gotten the comments it did if your tone had been different.
