These giant bags sound INSANE - someone needs to get us pictures! NOW I demand it I tell you...ok, calming down. So, did Mark score one or what?
Hey Mark, I think you already have a clear DBM, so if you did happen to get a large bag with ANOTHER one in it, I would gladly take it off your hands! Actually if anyone gets one, I'll be happy to buy it!
Sounds like a bit of a bias for the international webstore lucky bags and the instore ones- from first reports that is....
Part I bags are the same, international or japan. Part II, i guess is a bonus for hardcore fan-club since the invitation didn't go public. So i don't think there's any bias. Infact, if anything, i think the bias is favouring international, seriously. Non FC public don't even get a chance to get the LBs in japan. And international folks just have to go online to send an email to order...?? Seriously, i feel that when things are too easy to get, a lot of things are taken for granted. Also, i think there were only around a dozen Part II bags, so even if u are a local, you wouldn't be able to get one unless u are in the line early enough.
As a non-local of any of the Japanese vinyl toy areas (Japan, SF, NY etc.) I agree. BUT I wish my "hunt" involved hitting numerous stores on a kicking weekend and being able to just browse vs. losing my complexion sitting in front of a computer. I'm not complaining, btw, I don't think I have a right to complain. Just saying. Plus I miss out on the biggest benefit of being a "local" I don't have ANY friends in real life who give a crap about this stuff. No one to share the passion or talk to.
I meant in the price bracket really- nothing to do with anything else. $100 for a glow pirate, a DBM skullbrain and a Proto RI- wow! Half the beef with the webstore lucky bags was what you got for the price, from what I read.
Wow - not to rain on any parades - but as others have said these bags are a big pile of suck. Sure, you couldn't get all that stuff for $200 at retail - but I'm betting you could get all of it for under $200 on the secondary market (minus RI, Boogie & Captain - and those are all pretty lame too unless you're into unpainted). It's just a bunch of toys that you coulda bought but didn't (Convex, Sharkman, Madball, Obake Dog, Ultimate Battle, etc, etc). But that's what you get when you play the blind-bag game... Still, pretty shitty of Hiddy to pawn all that Convex crap off as "lucky" bag fodder.
As stated before, traditionally the lucky bag was a way for store to unload excess or unwanted merchandise. As the years have gone by, the lucky bag changed a bit with addition of something new in the bag...in this case, RI, Boogie...etc. If they weren't offered to international customer, people would be crying. Now that they are, people are still crying instead of being thankful for the opportunity that some of us could not take advantage of. You guys know what Secret Base carries, so you should have an idea of what comes with the lucky bag. Honestly, were you all expecting to get RI, Boogies, and Capts?
I expected way more RIs & Captains - which is partially why I didn't purchase (but mostly because I know what to expect from "Lucky" Bags, and that it's just not worth the money). I guess I've been pretty disappointed w/ SB in general for quite a while.
I'm not sure if the LB tradition, in general, is to try to dump stuff that you can't sell otherwise. (Maybe from department stores LOL.) But that certainly isn't what we've seen in LBs from Blobpus, Gargamel, or Cronic. You may not always want the stuff in their bags, and there may occasionally be an older figure in there, but it sure isn't 95% deadstock. But I have to agree that yeah you should know you're not going to get all choice pieces, and that the bags will cover a range of the company's stuff. Just like with last year's Super7 LBs. A bunch of were surprised that it was 100% S7 toys and no collabs, but as they have so many of their own toys, it's what we should have expected. So you definitely have to be realistic with these things. The thing I don't like is the large number of blanks in most LBs. Companies also need to stop trying to pass off blanks as "protos." A true proto is a test shot that's part of the development process. A test pull blank is limited to a small handful of pieces. You can't do a run of blanks (even if it's just 10 or 20) and call it a "proto" - even if it's the first blank sold of the figure. Calling it a proto is misleading.
Thats my favorite thing about LBs! And what Bert said +1000 like i said before everyone on these boards I FART A LOT about lucky bags.
Lol not meaning to point any fingers at anyone in particular, I was reminded that there was one lucky bag where ppl were all "oh i want this and this and this" and that stuff was in the bag and as soon as it was available to us gaijin everyone didnt want it anymore. Thats why co's shouldnt listen to customers.
Shit I'm not whining. I didn't buy these since I figured they'd be weak. But yeah if you know what you're getting into, buy, and then moan, then that's even weaker. Still, at the end of the day it's our money. Nothing wrong with saying that you like or don't like something, and there's always room on the bench for more than just cheerleaders.
I quite like lucky bags because of the surprise and build up... but there is always something in there you would do anything to get rid of asap. Life is like that. You know it'll be a surprise coming but not sure whether it's a nice one or not.
