Nintendo's ultra-innovative videogame console, which has been codenamed "Revolution" since it's announcement last year got it's official name yesterday: Wii pronounced "We" Nintendo had this to say: Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean? Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone. Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii. Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play. And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd. So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you. Because, it’s really not about you or me. It’s about Wii. And together, Wii will change everything.
Nerds far and wide practically broke the internet yesterday expressing their disgust and dismay w/ the new name. I think it's kind of silly, but I'm buying one anyways! Plus, there's evidence to suggest that Nintendo may be pulling an elaborate hoax - but whatever. I think it's hilarious how upset so many people are.
I'm buying one, if you're put off by the name then meh to you. It sounds fantastic! and yeah the amount of uproar is hilarious
What difference does the name make? If the name stops people from buying the system, they're not true gamers. I used to visit a popular video game forum, and I stuck to the off-topic forum 99% of the time because of the rampant stupidity displayed day in and day out in the gaming forum. NINTENDO IS TEH KIDDIE! XBOX OUTSELLZ GAMEPUBE!! SONY OUTSELLZ ALL!!! PWNT!!!! XBOX IS TEH HUGE!!!!! M$ IS TEH EVIL, AND BILL GATES IS TEH ANTICHRIST!!!!1111
I agree about the DS micro. I love my DS - but that thing is very very sexy. Check out this exhaustive Wikipedia entry for the Nintendo Wii: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii I'm just thrilled about this thing. The insanely innovative controller, WiFi ready, the low (projected) pricepoint (for the console AND the games), and the cherry on the sundae - the VIRTUAL CONSOLE, which will let you download any NES, SNES, or N64 game from Nintendo's library (Not to metion 3rd parties like Sega and Hudson, who are now on board). Incredible!
