I'm Going to Built to spill/the Meat Puppets/Dinosaur Jr. at Terminal 5 on Friday, and wondered what the venue is like. Also--do you think I can bring a camera in (its big DLSR)

I've been there a few times. It's pretty meh. I've worked in the NYC club scene from 16 into my mid 20s doing band bookings for one of the biggest clubs in the city so whenever I walk into a club I tend to be a bit more critical of it then other people may be. First off the sound system is piss poor. I've seen totally different bands there with no change in the awful sound. (Ladytron, MIA, Beastie Boys) The line of sight in the place can be pretty bad too. It's almost like the place was planned out very poorly or they did not hire an architect to actually use the space they have. But at the end of the day it's about the show and your passion for the band playing. I'm supposed to go see Dir en Grey there but I don't think I want to go back. It's a great lineup you're going to see and I am sure some of the negatives won't outweigh the fun you have.

So Philly girl tell me about International House? I'm thinking of going with my fiance to the horror marathon but I've never been there.

International house is like a college residence building for international students. The building also houses a 350 person theater (which is where the movies are) They are just theater seats. They used to be unbearable to sit in for more than an hour, but they just put in new ones. I haven't tried them out yet, but I will in a few weeks. I'll let you know if they are more comfy. :)

Its in West Philly which can be a bad part of town in the middle of the night, but is fine most of the time. There is a convenience store across the street and a cafe in the building (that is not open all night, but is open most "normal' hours of the day. pm me if you want more details or if I didn't cover something. :)

There are some pics of the space on my flickr here:

I was debating whether or not to go to terminal 5, to see Dir En Grey. I've read reviews on the place and they don't sound too good, and from reading the replies here it doesn't sound any better. Sound system is important to me, and if terminal 5 has as crappy a sound system as people are saying, well that sucks

Girl Talk killed the place! Sick show. All the shows I've seen there (Justice, Shins) have been fine in terms of sound quality and what not.

In the immortal words of The Queers..."This Place SUCKS"

I caught In Flames there not too long ago and from the get-go it was a terrible experience (good show, though).

Security was militant, the place had no signs anywhere to let you know where to go. Coat Check was $3

The place is beyond huge and tri-level. That was pretty interesting but I thought the sound really faltered, which usually = bad board operator. No idea on how much drinks were.

The biggest gripe I had though were the jackasses who proceeded to dump their drinks onto the crowd the entire show...and how security didn't bat an eye to stop it. From what I understand this happens constantly at the shows so be prepared to get wet.

AND...this place was way freakin' out in the middle of nowhere. Like 11th ave, which has no real shops, train stops..anything around it.

For me, I won't head back there anytime soon unless it's for a be-all, end-all show.
