I don't recall saying or implying that.
That said, platform toy pics? Whatever.

"It is a fact that nine-tenths of the HUMAN RACE never have and never will think for themselves, about anything.

Whether it's music or Reaganomics, say, almost everyone prefers to sit and wait till somebody who seems to have some authority even if it's seldom too clear just where they got it come along and inform them one and all what their position on the matter should be.

Then they all agree that this is gospel, and gang up to persecute whatever minority might happen to disagree.

This is the history of the human race, certainly the history of music."

Well, you make a good point. I come and go for periods of time, but mostly what brings me back over and over are the good people I've met here over the years. Sadly, some of the toys have not kept my interest, but there's always a nice group of weirdos I can generally relate to here, many of whom have become really great friends of mine.

I sometimes just really enjoy throwing a little oil on the fire and watching the sparks fly. :) Its the old troublemaker punk in me. Throwin' stink bombs into the crowd and laughing when the chaos begins.

I probably have the least "approved' collection of stuff on this board, but its awesome, and no amount of bullying would make me change what I'm into or have me stop posting what I love. Buy what you like, don't buy what you don't, and once in a while ruffle some feathers to keep yourself amused.

At my first comic-con meeting SB crew in person, i expressed a some insecurity about not having a big vinyl or kaiju collection. Locomoco patted me on the back and said "We all share the same psychosis. Dolls, Vinyl. Same thing."

From that day on I felt like part of your gang. You guys are family, and sometimes families have fights. :) Its all good. I just don't feel the new toys. And I miss the magazine something fierce!

I really like some of the Anraku stuff - especially the Goga. I just can't justify the secondary market prices. $100-125 and I'd be all over them.

People are talking of sb as being originally created as a spot for kr refugees... I was wondering if there was a spot these days for people who are not teenagers and who also like non-Japanese vinyl? I honestly don't know why it couldn't be here, even if of course limited to a specific forum to spare everyone's feelings... As someone pointed out, the difference between a lot of the current s7 stuff and Western vinyl is limited to the "made in Japan" tag...

Or does this board, being s7's, follow what they sell (or would sell) only? (Which would be totally fine, just wondering...)

Brian I'm not going to really get into it, but if newer folks followed this advice I think there would be a lot less animosity.

I'd rather read someone's opinion about why they like a toy rather than just saying things like "+1", etc.

Either way I don't really care who collects what. I have friends that collect vintage diecast, kr stuff, and creepy carol channing ventriloquist dummies ( :) ), if you're cool and respectful I'm ok with that. I recall you and I having a discussion at SDCC last year, and you brought up a really good point. People here wouldn't say half of the shit that gets posted if they were talking to you face to face. I still love Super 7 toys, I buy a couple a month I think at this point, but I won't buy everything because not all of it fits my collection.

As it's been said over and over, buy what you like. If you don't, you end up with closets full of crap that you can't sell for a fraction of retail. :)

Great quote. I used to read his stuff in Creem all the time when I a kid. Too bad he overdosed on Nyquil and Tranqulizers 30 years ago. So are you audio or are you not? The knunt part is obviously true.

And I bet 90% of us think we are that 10%. If you just nodded your head to that quote, you are probably not.

    Thanks for posting that.

If you or others haven't seen or read Noam Chomsky's Manufacturing Consent it is well worth your time. It comes from a different point of view (indoctrination and mythmaking) but the end result is the same.

Full film here (at least for now).

    :!: Hear, hear. :!:

Or for that matter, why you dislike something. Just posting "sucks" or "want" says nothing. It's sort of inane. Opinions are always more fun and interesting, and sometimes even carry power of connotation and influence ... to cause people to reconsider their initial reactions. You don't have to be a fancy writer about it, just try saying something, you know? Just a friendly suggestion with an eye to keeping this place fun.

Some of us who don't buy as much as we used to will again when we can, trust me. 8)

P.S. I have Azteca Dumbies on the window sill of my bathroom and I do not apologize. I'd like to think that their placement says something.

punk as fuck! i didn't know you were that serious! shit! fuck the establishment! stink bombs away!
fucking broads need to simmer down. bad mouthing someone on their own board doesn't make a whole lot of sense now does it? especially someone as sweet as brian, without who many of us wouldn't have ANY of the beautiful toys we love weather we got them through S7 or through contacts here on the board, have some fucking manners will you.

i don't see what the big deal is, lets be honest that less than ten years ago we all owned a lil kid robot, in fact i financed my first S7 toys by selling my series one [expletive deleted], and i am sure i am not the only one.

Don't ask me why I'm bothering but:

    1-stink bombs-Metaphorical. I didn't think I'd have to explain that one.
2-Nothing was directed at Brian. He wasn't even on this thread until 6 pages in.
3-Dummys haven't even been around for 10 years
4-I've never owned one, but if I did, I would have kept it because if I bought one in the first place, it would have only been because I liked it, not because it was some cool new trend. By your logic, your beautiful toys you love now will be sold to finance some new trend in a few years.
5-I really only responded to this thread at all to make audio laugh this morning, and I did, so I'm gonna stop looking at it now.

    k thx bai.

What a great impression we must be making on the OP of this thread.
He comes in. Posts some crap toys that don't belong here and gets some flack for it.
He then tries to make it right and does a pretty good job explaining himself and not taking it too hard.
Thread continues too long, fueled by noobie posts and related annoyance.
Then quickly devolves into bickering, insults and infighting. Insults being hurled even at the creators of this very board, that we all use to sell our unwanteds, gain knowledge and share our toys.

This is reminding me more and more of that other board and all the bullshit that used to and probably still does go on over there. I even see some familiar names.

Thus to my point MIssy (Audio, and everyone else), there is a community here, and that is why we come back, not the toys. To assume though that the community will not change or grow over time is unrealistic. It is the same as the old punks saying it was better when they were there, and the new shit sucks. Your moment in the sun will be when you were there, and that changes for everyone. Were the good old days 1979 with Black Flag and Bad Brains? 1981 in DC and Boston? 1988 in NYC? Probably all of them depending on how old you are, because it was new to you, and you met your friends there. It is an emotional response, not a rational response. People think Lifetime is a classic band, but they were after my era, and I can't get into it. Does it make them any less valid? The good old days are past tense, and unless we are trying to build new good days, we will live forever with our best days behind us which is depressing as hell. I am not asking you to like what we are doing, as we all collect very different things, and all of collect something besides vinyl toys (vintage Star Wars figures for me as an example, or Blythe dolls for you). Do any of us care what anyone else thinks?

I digress. The point of this community (which you like) is to add to it's knowledge and it's function, not destroy it unless it is worthless. If this was worthless, you wouldn't be here. So I say, unless you want to help these new kids learn "right from wrong", you are not helping the community. I am not saying you need to be here every day, but everyone was a Fresh Meat once, everyone was the odd kid out. We can still be smart, sharp-tongued and witty without being bullies. Remember what it was like to be excited about toys, and realize that you throw "stink bombs" at those who oppress and demean you, not those that who you think look funny and have not had the chance to know better yet. If we do this, we have the chance to make new friends, and continue on. If not, we will simply die off, another dinosaur not worth saving.

    Other points:

The new mook will be out a couple months after SDCC which will hopefully quell a bit of magazine memories. I would like to still have the magazine too, but no one else can keep one afloat these days either. (and if you look back, we had folks like Horvath, Bwana, Toygraph and SB in issue #2, and we are still working with them now, not that much has really changed.)

For the new kids, if you want to talk about Dummys and [expletive deleted], please go to the place where people have a forum for that . This is a forum for everything else. It's like discussing the merits of buddhism in a catholicism board. Just the wrong venue.

And yes, for the record, we were around before KR existed -unless you count their years as "Mini-Disco". But if you count the years of us doing books like "So Crazy Japanese Toys" we may preclude them again, but who the fuck really cares? It matters more what we are doing now.

BTW, if you are new, Scott/HMS is a master of sarcasm and is widely missed. But feel free to make fun of him for collecting Obake Dogs. It is a win-win! (and yes, your toys shipped back!)

This thread is still missing food. Snowballs! So while we were in FL a couple of weeks ago, I asked a local girl who was hanging out near the Laundromat by S7 if there was any place to get a snow-cone, she had the most baffled look on her face as she genuinely seemed to not know what the hell I was talking about. PBR ended up being a very suitable substitute. 8)

Spearmint with Condensed Milk will definitely be purchased sometime tomorrow!

I think the point of all this is not EVERY nooob is a jackass and not EVERY old school member is a saint, but we all collect and have temperamental toy nerd dispositions, so we all have at least one thing in common. ;)
