Not actually got any of the newer stuff 'in hand' yet but the Atom A. Armewrestler stuff and the Kozik HP's had that same finish and I have the same preference. Something about them throws a spanner in the RxH 'vibe'.

I've also read that a couple of the new releases have some kinda super glossy clearcoat too . . . curious to check 'em out!

I picked up the Tokyo Red Evil Bat from Lulu, which looks like it has a real matte finish and a more 'shaded' and detailed paint job, and I expect I will like it quite a bit when it finally comes. I'm willing to embrace both glossy and matte painted figures, but I do have this mental block where I always think matte painted figures are more likely to chip... not sure if that's true.

1/6 Skullbrain? Arguably one of the best toys ever made!

The HP-looking round of Max Toy Tripuses that were actually factory paints all use more matte colors, and they are mind-blowing. I think matte certainly has its place, especially when many of the sculpts we all enjoy are complex enough that you can really go to town and 'realistically' paint them, but most people here don't seem to go for that at all.

Well the 1/6 'Brain is all about simplicity.

I dig the matte finish on him and the fire paint job is sweet. It distinguishes him from the my other bats. Watch out... I found out that his elbows were not completely dry.

One funny thing that I can't get over... It looks like he is wearing briefs.

I like the colors I just wish it had some gloss. I just don't like the matte. Matte figures feel incomplete to me even if the colors are really great.

GID with matte finish freehand sprays look pretty great to me. I'm thinking 1/6 brain and the original glow evils. We can rule out the Kozik versions because frankly (no pun intended) those were just too clogged up and busy.
I like gloss the rest of the time though.

too much candy-like gloss, on the other hand, can take away from the toy as much as a bland matte finish. undue reflections caused by show-room-car clear coat can muddy the sculpt details, while a matte finish can feel rough or unfinished to the touch. when the shine just looks like virgin vinyl, that's perfection to me.

    YOR RONG!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, the Black Astrobrain had a nice matte black contrasting against the gloss clear smoke.

OK I can agree on this. But overall just not into matte. Too much gloss sucks too Ultra.

All this talk of 1:6 and Astro Brains makes me sad!

Has anyone found any cool weapons that they like to give their Adults? I've been thinking that they'd look cool with some swords or clubs. Or more weapon arm attachments, but that's a little more effort ;)

I really like both of those Evil's. That pinky flesh one a bit more but the red's nice too. I saw some pics of the fleshy from Mori's twitter but didn't see anything on that red till today.
