i am spying this very cool vintage looking godzilla motorized something. the sculpt looks early 70's to me but is it vintage? if someone can help with id that would help lots. also, what should i consider paying? its not an auction sale so i can barter but the guy wants over 200. help please.
It is a die-cast Bullmark Godzilla released in 1977. The original japanese retail price for this item was 1350 yen back then.
Also, it is not motorized, but you can fire the missiles from it. I would make sure the chest piece can stay closed without help, I've seen a few that fall open with a slight touch. I'm not an expert on pricing, but $200 seems a bit high. There are others in the series, like Ghidorah, that may warrant the higher prices. It is a great toy, however.
thanks to both of you. i really love it so I'm going to attemp a barter. and thank you for the series info i am going to start hunting the others.
He's a Bullmark Bullpet. Here's some more info: http://robotjapan.proboards.com/index.c ... read=10845 http://www.toyboxdx.com/datafiles/data/ ... /page2.php Its one of the more common ones in the line. I think about $150 to $200 is fair for him. The Anguirus is the most rare and expensive. I'm personally hunting for an affordable blue Baragon. Its long been among the top of my most wanted list of toys. I could have sworn I'd seen a purple one along the way. too. Has anyone else ever seen this? The few I've spoken with don't recall ever seeing it.
also check out super7 mag #3 (transformers issue) for a cool little article about these bullpet dudes
great info and im going to try and find that back issue of the super7 magazine. the guy I'm buying from came down to 190 so with the current info on hand i am feeling ok about buying it. looks like a new side collection fetish is born. hope it is kosher when I go and look at it tomorrow. thanks again to you for the help especially king with those links.
Yikes...even $150 might be pushing it. The Bulllpet Godzillas (in that condition: complete/mint toy...C8ish box) shouldn't run much over $100. Myles, I don't recall seeing a purple Baragon, but have you checked A Bullmark Story (or seen it any other publications)?
Its not in Bullmark Story. I don't have too many publications, but I have not seen it in any that I've viewed. I just recall seeing it in an auction many many years ago before I was too familiar with these. At the time, I thought it was a standard color, but I came to learn otherwise. Maybe time is clouding my memory, but I could have sworn I saw one. As to pricing, it just seems to me that the price of these has increased lately. Of course condition will greatly affect pricing, but the ones that I've seen sold or listed on ebay (haven't been watching YJ lately) have been for more than in the past.
i just wanted to say thank you again for the help and give an update. i did pay 190 but after meeting the guy he is not a collector and this was a childhood toy of his so he seemed hesitant to even sell it. i just payed it. i figure the economy is at him also. the figure is perfect, all parts work great and the chest does stay shut.
