Hey L.A.S.K. Gang, I am going to visit L.A. In July any advice on spots to check out? I am into Graffiti murals, toys, records. I have been several times but I am sure I have missed a lot of stuff. Any must see places?
You should check out Amoeba for music for sure, they have tons of stuff new and used together: http://www.amoeba.com/ Toy wise you may want to check out Anime Jungle: http://www.animejungle.net/user/scripts ... tegory.php They are kind of hit or miss. It's mostly anime goods but there is also a decent bit of Kaiju, Sentai there. Some things are way over priced some things can be had at fantastic prices. Depends on what you're looking for.
Thanks DK, I love that music store. I will have to check out the others you mentioned. I thought I would get more comments than this. Rep your city guys. I know you guys will prob never visit OKC but if you did I could tell you all about it, shopping, eats, music venues. What's up?
Toy Vacation Posts: Robocon: http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006/ ... t-iii.html Happyland: http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006/ ... ii_07.html OG Munky King: http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006/ ... ii_16.html Anime Jungle: http://toybotstudios.blogspot.com/2006/ ... rt-iv.html
Cool! Thanks tbs! That is what I was looking for. I have been to the old munky king location but I didn't know about the other stores. I will def go and check them out. Does anyone know if there are any stores that carry vintage ad toys. Vinyl cereal mascots or resturant toys? I am going to sdcc on thurs then heading up to L.A. On fri and sat.
Just discovered this place a few days ago, lots of little vintage toys. http://www.shinegallery.com/ Might be worth a visit if you're in the area, it's in a huge food court.
Check out: http://www.meltcomics.com/ This is a huge store and they have a ton of toys up front, many from back in the day and a ton of vintage. Comics in the back. It's across the street from the old Span of Sunset, which sadly is no more. You might not have time but you can google some of the larger prop houses and see if they have any mascot or restaraunt toys. Many sell to the public and you never know what you might find.
Giant Robot There's graf everywhere. I've seen a bunch of KAWS throwups downtown. They must be ancient. It's not my city but it will be within a month.
Awesome guys, thanks for the info. Those kaws throwies must of happened after his show there. I didn't think he got up anymore. I will def check out these spots.
its kinda funny there are some ganksta graff guys here in LA from sotel13 and one of their names is KAws..so I see kaws tags everyday by my house..and I bet this guy doesnt even know about brian KAWS
If you don't mind taking a 1/2 hour to 45 min. drive then yes, in Anaheim (Disneyland area) there are two shops right across the street from each other that carry that sort of thing on and off (lots of unusual vintage stuff at least). Sadly I don't know the names of those shops but there are 3 shops (2 in one plaza, and one directly across the street in another strip mall plaza) If you make it to this shop (mostly carrying new toys with some vintage stuff snuck in) one will be two doors away and the other will be across the street: http://www.phatcollectibles.com/
Melrose area: Suru on Melrose carries Medicom, Bounty Hunter clothing, art books and more. It is but a short distance to Go Ape! the Bathing Ape store, and on the next block is Tokidoki and across teh street is KR (which is a a nicely fabricated store regardless of how u view their various offerings). Go 10 or so blocks East and you hit Munky King. DOnt forget De La Barracuda which displays some toys and has some cool clothes too.
LA has a lot of good spots to eat at, you can check out some of these spots Burgers: In'n out Tommy's Father's Office Umami Burger 8 Ounce Burger Bar The Bowery 25 Degrees Hot dogs: Pink's Sausages: Wurstkuche Tacos: Kogi Taco truck Tito's taco's El tapatio Senior Fish Chicken: Roscoe's chicken & waffles Sandwiches: Langer's restaurant (pastrami sandwiches) Johnny's Pastrami The Hat Bakery's: Porto's This is just stuff on the top of my head.
