Kozik. It's nice to have an opinion, but the way you put someone on the firing line again just goes to show why S7 cut your space.
that kids brain just expanded to the size of the universe. My J toy fetish started with a grainy video of Yamato...I thought a space faring battleship was the coolest thing i had ever seen. It was like so perfectly insanely cool.
firing line? he's on a toy collectors board I wanna know why he collects these toys. do the transport him to a fantasy world? does he like the colors? because they come from far away and are weird? because he is an animist? there are so many reasons.
i used to wake up at 5:30 am to watch it before school when channel 5 decided to move it to an ungodly hour.
That's "Starblazers" yeah Frank? Well at least in Oz that's what that series was called. Loved it as a kid and have all the episodes on DVD. So cool. Half way thru season 2 - The Comet Empire. "Deeeeeeesslok...Deslok..Deslok..Deslok" Love that chant.
yes starblazers. whats super interesting is the fact they used the ultimate sacrificial symbol of a defeated Imperial japan to represent the rebirth of humanity in the cosmos. thats crazy. soo interesting.
There is always differing levels you can go to in Japanese productions - wether it be manga, anime or live action. Take it at face value or look at the symbols and go deeper. Makes shit damn interesting.
because they look neat. I think everyone can find some vinyl is really cool... they just can't get over how much it costs. I"m pretty new... I stumbled on Munnys (on hypebeast of all places)around the same time i stumbled into Double Punch and was in awe of the bronze kaws x pus on display... this led me to the KR message board where I got wind of the Kaws x pus release at kawsone. i've been fucked ever since. So in other words.. i collect because i think they look neat and i've convinced myself that it is okay to spend all that money on it.
Hey Kid - instead of taking a shot at Frank why don't you answer the question like everyone else around hre has? I collect because I enjoy it. It is my hobby- it relaxes me. It is the thrill of the hunt and the eventual showing off of the collection and having freinds go either - COOL! or WTF? I lets me relive the feelins I had when I was a kid and got the new toy from the toy store.
I like how they get animated and illuminate themselves should I ever you know... I had a Last Kaiju change colours on me...
you know certain people on KR used to ask that question CONSTANTLY. ask about japanese toys like they were some bizarro freakfest. but i don't buy that, so i never answered. then, like now, people are free to answer or not. i don't see why its so horrendous that frank would post the question. its certainly been directed at lots of people here, by certain others. we're used to being under a critical eye from some people, right?
he asked that question to one person in particular not as a general question. of course if geo wants to blow up and get himself banned like on that other board, that's his problem. And personally, I collect because the chase is fun, the toys are visually great and nice to have around, and I've learned a lot about various fun things and "cultures" while doing it.
OK then I'll turn a blind eye and move on. So here are my reasons. Collecting toys inspires my inner child to come out so that I can be more playful with my illustrations and designs. It sparks off my imagination! I think watching anime, live action and collecting toys is a great combination. I still collect Star Wars since I love the fix it gives me and reminds me when I was a kid collecting the first series of Kenner toys. I am so into Kaiju or any monsters that are quirky. It is interesting to see the evolution of toys too. Like how Bounty Hunter created those set of early figures inspired from Henshin Dokuro King toys. The clear plastic body with guts has now extended into the Neo Kaiju stuff from Gargamel and Real Head. So great to see the link and it's different interpretations.
