Never heard it called old hag. I have had it happened before. It is horrifying. But sadly not alien induced.

Yeah, its commonly referred to as that. I am not too sure why, though, its always depicted as an old hag. Why not like Asia Argento or Masuimi Max?

ive had many very stange experiences from when i was very young to now, usually seeing something that isnt there, sometimes plausible things, but most often implausible things like creatures, lights, etc. i tend to attribute them to having a pretty over-active and visual immagination, although it always feels like whatever it is is right there. the house i live in is fairly old and creaky, and strange sounds that are probably just the people who live above or below me can easily be interpreted as something scary. sometimes i freak myself out when i close my eyes in the shower, and have to peek outside the curtain to remind myself that no monsters or giant insect things live in my bathroom. i also get super creeped out when i have to change laundry late at night, because the machines in my building are in a scary basement full of zombies who chase me up the stairs every time, just out of sight, of course.

realizing that all the freaky things i see/experience are supported only by my perception/immagination, and no evidence of any kind makes me pretty skeptical about the reality behind the freaky things other people see and feel. its really fun and interesting to think about strange creatures/aliens/ghosts/etc, but i have a hard time believing that any of it actually occurs.

one the other hand, every once in awhile something implausible turns out to be true, so who can say?

those night paralysis episodes have been called "spiritual attacks" too. I've had them happen to me and one time the "presence" choked me. it sucked. it was scary, but i fell asleep, woke up, the end.

i heard that sometimes when we're still in a dream state, we open our eyes...then i guess the imagination kicks in. our brains shut off the somatic stuff so we don't thrash about and do potentially harmful stuff to ourselves while we sleep--like walk and fall down a flight of stairs or something. it's weird, but it happens.

we used to live in an apartment that we could all agree was haunted. there was definitely something going on there. but one incident took place, and my brother thinks it could've been ghost or aliens or something.

i was asleep, and my brother (who's in the top-bunk of our bed) calls me to help him kill the bugs that have crawled all over his bed. i remember the lights being on...i get up without hesitation, grab my slippers, run up to the bed and start smacking the bugs off and down. i remember it...watching the bugs fall off, crushing more...

then i remember my brother and i telling my father what had happened the next day. there were no bugs--dead or alive--of any kind in the room. he asked us to tell him what had happened--and when he did it, he separated us (to see if our stories lined up). he said he didn't believe us, but he didn't tell us that we were lying (we weren't).

    fast forward years later...
my brother and i are adults. he came to visit after a tour in iraq. we talk about old times and the apartment we grew up in came up. he brought up that incident with the bugs, and he asked me,
"don't you think it was strange how when i called you to help me, you just got out of bed without question?..."

yeah...i remember doing that. it felt strange.

"...do you know what time of day/night it was?..."

no, actually. the lights were on...i think. but it was hard to know if it was day or night.

"do you remember falling asleep or waking up that night after it happened?"

    ...no i don't.

"yeah...neither do i. i just remember telling dad the next day."

...that's strange. that's all i can remember doing too.

    *both shudder*

he thinks it could've been somethingo either related to the ghost we had causing trouble, or pehaps an alien encounter...he tends to think it was probably the latter.

Glad for the necropost. I've had two UFO experiences, but one stands out.

back in 95 I was a freshman at the University of New Mexico. I was working as a DJ for Dunns Dancing Machine. We had some school dance in the outskirts of Albuquerque. The gig was over and we where driving home in a medium U-haul sized truck, it was probably 2am. In the side rearview mirror i saw a car gaining on me quick. I chuckled and thought- be ready to pass me dude, cause I got no place to pull over.

I remember the road started to wind a little and the light behind me had no problem getting right behind me. I thought to myself- its gotta be a motorcycle (cause I couldn't make out 2 headlights). It was tailgaten' for just under a couple minuets. I had already slowed down and I couldn't figure out why they wouldn't just pass. I started to look for a place to pull over so I could get this guy out of my hair and took my foot off of the gas.

That second the thing blasted past me, it went just over the rig up to the sky in front of me. The speed was unreal, I couldn't process what happened. I couldn't talk- all I could do was drive. I finally got enough courage to finally look at my passenger. While i was looking in the rearview and watched this thing shoot off in back of us, he had seen the thing disappear in front of us. I will never forget the look on his face. I still couldn't talk, couldn't wait to get home. When we where close enough to the city to see lights he finally said... "it was probably just a plane".

We never talked about it and this is the first time sharing. I still dont know what it was, but I do hope to live long enough to find out.

Thanks for sharing! I always love hearing peoples stories about this stuff.
The believer in me wants to believe that they are alien UFOs, but the skeptic in me - particularly in Colorado/New Mexico incidents - thinks it's US military.

it was so fast, I don't think we made it. But I believe the US Military knows more and has some sharing to do, I hope I'm around when they do.

Just to answer this really old question, people that experience sleep paralysis or 'hagging' as it's sometimes called often report seeing an old woman in the room during the incident. Not necessarily doing the choking or pressing- just in the room.

Ok, I did not want to comment on this but it's the right thing to do. Yes the 'old hag' phenomena has been reported world wide,
the bottom line is that negative forces come in different forms the hag is one of many. They like control so they play on fear. Personal and even better spiritual power is the key. Countless cases, spanning all true religions, of calling on the powers of heaven, ie Jesus etc.. have broken the grip of the dark side.

Its a fact that concrete nuts and bolts UFO'S cross over into a psychic componant. Dr. Jaques Vallee, whom the character of 'Lacombe' the French scientist from Spielbergs movie 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' was inspired goes into depth about this in most of his books. 'They' seem to be coming from different places and are not necessarily all in our best interest. Like the entity experiences, many 'UFO' cases also have accounts of paralysis as well, under such conditions it is possible to break free, using inner will through confrontation or more effectively by invoking the name of the being you have faith in. Ann Druffel wrote an interesting book that scratches the surface of this called 'How to defend yourself against alien abduction'...

A great book on the topic of Sleep Paralysis is The Terror That Comes in the Night by David J. Hufford. The author speculates that the personages seen during night terrors are in many cases culturally based (e.g. the "old hag" of Norse mythology or La Llorona in Latin American lore.)

I wrote a long essay on the subject about ten years ago ... if anyone's interested I can post it here (or maybe elsewhere ... it's probably too long for a forum post.) It's got some spooky parts. 8)

Yes! By all means post it. Dr. Vallee specifically makes these correlations in his book 'Passport to Magonia' which is about UFOs, Folklore, and Parallel Worlds. Actually we are talking about energy of various kinds that often take the form that our collective psyche relates to on an unconscious, sometimes conscious level. These forces are real and not ficticious however we mythologize and sometimes glamorize them.

Great read! I too had these as a kid and sleep walk too. I also have recurring dreams of places and events that havent happend yet. I dreamed about San Francisco for years before I moved here. I dreamed of a house that was hunted. It had many floors and lots of rooms. Later in life I went to this house and became friends with one of the tenants. The history of this house is pretty crazy. Here is a link I found on the internet about some of the history
    http://www.indiegogo.com/House-of-Legends
Here is a pix of the house
    [IMG]

Currently I have recurring dreams about a warehouse that is the size of 10 city blocks and it has a casino and hotel in it but part of it is abandoned and is hunted.

Sorry to derail the topic, but the whole "night terror" thing got me thinking about sleep, and dreams. But yeah I totally believe in Aliens

It would be hard to believe that there is no other life forms in the universe; that they are in contact with us, have infiltrated us, studied or are waiting in the shadows to engage in discourse seems much less plausible to me.

I do entertain all the reasonable assumptions out there.

Also, I have a friend that sleep walks and has those 'sleep terror' dreams which is very interesting to read. specially from such diverse group of people.

Uh, yeah, I know this thread went off topic years ago - but if there's a bored moderator with nothing to do can we split this thread into a new "night terrors" thread and then keep this one as a UFO thread? Both are interesting, but I want to read about UFOs in this thread.

I'm with you there. I was with a few friends in Tokyo and we saw a very bright star. It was bright enough we all stopped to look at it. It suddenly just shot in one direction like a shooting star and disappeared. I think it probably is easily explainable, but that's the only UFO story I have, as in unidentified flying object, not as in alien.

Oh, and you'll probably find this interesting: http://www.bbc.com/future/story/2012082 ... rlds-exist

You could maybe just start a new thread and post the link here?

OK. I have 3 UFO stories.

    1. When I was 19 and living just south of Portland, OR: Parked with some friends in a field in Butteville, OR doing what kids do. Making out, drinking, etc. Shortly after arriving, my girlfriend at the time and I were sitting on the hood of the car watching this "plane" way off on the horizon. It was flying just above the tree line and too far away to see lights or details, but we could tell it was metallic. Seemed to be moving very fast from our left to our right for some time and then, without slowing (it actually accelerated), it made a 45 degree acute turn and shot back toward our left and up out of sight and seemingly out of the atmosphere. My girl looked at me and gasped, "Did you just see that?"
Another friend behind us had seen it too! We couldn't stop talking about it for days after.

    2. Laying in bed one night here in Fresno, I was watching what I thought was a single star through the window as I was trying to sleep. But the light seemed to be wavering. Even changing color slightly. I looked around the room to be sure there was no source of light that may be reflected in the window, but realized this was impossible from the angle I was looking through. Now wide awake, I studied the light and knew for a fact it was changing color and intensity very slowly. I nudged my girlfriend and asked her to watch the light with me. She seemed bothered at first, but was soon entranced as well. Within minutes, this bright light was swaying and bobbing as it moved through the visible light spectrum. Neither of us wanted to get up to investigate further. And it did not seem menacing. Eventually we both slept.

    3. July 4th, 2010. Blowing up some 2 liter/piccolo pete bombs with a friend as everyone enjoyed fireworks in the California "safe and sane" fashion. Once in a while someone in the surrounding neighborhood would fire off a few illegal mortar fireworks- and our piccolo pete bombs weren't exactly legal either, so we were scanning the sky for fireworks and the Fresno Police helicopter which is a common sight in my neighborhood. Suddenly, I saw lights in the sky with my peripheral vision. Looking up, over my left shoulder, I saw what I thought to be the Fresno PD helicopter. It was nearly overhead and we had not heard it. I think I said something like, "Oh shit..." My friend turned and looked as well.
At that moment, all fireworks were quiet. It was dead quiet. This craft was almost directly overhead and LOW. But there was no sound. It had yellowish green and red lights, but none of them were flashing as on a conventional aircraft, and it seemed to change shape from an elongated diamond to an oval. I remember very clearly asking, "What the fuck IS that?" Time seemed to slow, and I was trying to study it, figure out what it could be, etc. It just seemed to hover so slowly that it would have to be a helicopter, but still no noise. We jockeyed for position to not lose sight of it as it cruised over my 2 story home and slowly off over the field behind my house. We began to chatter excitedly about "what else could it be besides a UFO, holy shit, cool, etc'
As it moved off, we were even more amazed as smaller, white, dust-like lights began to fall from the craft toward the ground. It dropped 20 to 30 smaller lights which fell slowly to the ground as it continued to cruise off out of sight.
This was the most amazing and awesome thing I have ever seen. I have no doubt whatsoever that this thing was a UFO. It was of no conventional, or known type of propulsion. And if not alien- it was some, as yet unshared, technology. And what the hell was it dropping?
One year later, we googled Fresno UFO just for shits and giggles. Apparently there were other sightings that weekend as well! Even got on the news...

    Funny you mention.
About 3 years ago I was in Silverlake CA. to see a show and my friend and I had just eaten Thai food on the same street as the venue. As we were walking around sunset I spotted a bright flickering object in the Norther sky headed east. Suddenly it started "dropping" individual smaller lights, almost in perfect time. The after about 30 seconds it immediately stopped and faded. It was crazy. I've seen many many shooting stars and meteors. The trajectory didn't fit. My friend didn't see it, he's legally blind. I did ask some people, but nobody saw it and I was crazy. I've been seeing many videos recently with "craft" doing the same "drop" stuff.

BY FAR the weirdest thing I saw was in the Desert while camping. My friends and I suddenly noticed a large black cylinder shape with a white light on each end. You could see it standing out from the star filled sky and full moon. Were were thinking "Balloon, maybe a blimp, or a joke? Pretty killer joke!" Then it began to "stretch" and elongate from end to end, it tripled in size, and zipped away over the horizon in a illuminated blur, as if it was a rubber band being shot from someones finger. Insane acceleration. People began arguing and yelling all over the camp. Some people suggested a Russian rocket the next day, but standing still, blocking out the sky, and suddenly zipping off. I still doubt it. It looked so unreal, like it was "folding" or "Warping" space or something like some sort of multi-dimensional rolling pin. :?:

I was once driving home from Pittsburgh, deep in the mountains late at night. The whole sky lit up like an electrical explosion (blue) and we saw a very brief trail of sparks...it was a meteor. I wished it to be a crashed UFO, but it was not to be.
