Hmmm... good to know
AA has been sketchy for a while. But Gargamel seems to keep including them in their shows and bags so I would assume they expressed there concerns with AA and buried the hatchet. It's clear as day though that they are a collector first and a retailer second. I would encourage people to stop buying from them and support the places stateside like rotofugi or DDR
I haven't had any issues from Angel Abbey. My last purchase with them included my very first Zodiac animal as well as a bunch of other cool stuff I ended up keeping. So idk my experience has been nothing but positive.
I remember the “incident.” They opened a few bags and SOMEHOW managed to pull every standard toy that was offered that year. Then they sold them separately for jacked up prices.
I’ve tried before to see if I could feel the toys inside the bag without causing any visible damage. You can totally feel a Deathra through that bag. Could probably feel a Tetran too with that little head-fin. I really hope distributors haven’t done that before.
I’m not saying that AA felt the bags before opening them, but it’s just too sketchy for me to ever rationalize buying from them.
I’ve ordered or preordered from DDR every year, never had an issue or complaint.
Unfortunately for a Gargamel collector, despite any personal feelings either way, they are the sole distributor of many Gargamel toys now as they are putting out exclusive versions at least once a year: the zag/minizag/doranekon trio, the yellow doranekon, micros, etc. They're also the only venue providing mail order access to customs as they often offer leftovers to international customers after shows. Plus, as it's been said before, it seems Gargamel has a good relationship with them. I have strong feelings about their past behavior but I have been very happy with every order I've received from them. They were also they cheapest option for LBs this year unless you were able to order directly from Gargamel. I think about $23 cheaper than Super7, who was the most expensive. Of course they should be cheaper if they're combed through first
I think I have also received a zodiac in the past from an LB purchased through them, but I'm not positive.
At this point, selling lucky bags is such a small part of their business, I doubt they are tampering with them. Also if you are going to call them out publicly for restapling, at least post a picture, seems only fair when you are calling into question someone’s reputation/actions.
Yes the broke up and resold bags in the past. I don’t think the chase ratio is that insane, that you couldn’t pull a complete set by opening around 10 bags, or so.
Ultimately shop where it makes you happy, but I do think they get a lot of crap for an early mistake.
Don’t you guys get sick of having this same (completely fucking superfluous) conversation about this, literally every year? Apparently not!
Me, reading another AA digression with no new information:
Thank fucking glob I’m not the only one! WE DO IT EVERY FUCKING YEAR
It's tradition. You're either with us or you're against us.
I'm between you.
Got my bag today

Customs don't try and re-staple bags shut though...
*Unless the customs official is a toy collector
I’m just imagining some dude from customs deliberately opening up packages just to see the sweet, sweet sofubi... living vicariously through our purchases.
. . . or hunting out the chase Zodiac Cat! (the perfect crime!)
Last photo is one of the staples from my S7 bag, which was stapled once, for reference. I didn't come here planning for a big public call-out and have said a few times now that this doesn't mean the retailer did anything. But I didn't know the history, and if I had I might not have posted; that one's on me.
That said, it's weird to say customs might open stuff, because customs won't care about folding down the bag like it was originally done and sealing it again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, I'm most likely on the shitlist now good times. @Eric Nilla, congrats on the beautiful bag.
This is more fun than the same old convo:
Ta for the photos - I can understand one re-stapling job if the stapler fucked up by accident when Gargamel were packing but this looks like all 3 staples were removed and replaced. Although really if you were being sneaky about it, it's easy enough to just reinsert the original staples through the same holes and bend them back to being closed? This truly is a sofubi mystery case!
S7 wouldnt open bags.... I have restapled bags forgetting what i put in my own blindbags. Remember last year people were short a few pieces.....
we got it all - mystery, suspense, another great start to the year!
Nice! And, you got stickers
It looks like there is three sets of Staple holes.
so I'm guessing one customs agent opened it up, took a look, folded it back down and stapled it... and then the next custom agent opened it up again, looked around, folded it back and then stapled it a third time? We cracked the case!
