Fuck the list

Very well put. The whole reason I'm a part of this "community" is the sense of maturity and fair play that I got from it initially. The KR board is a perfect example of what happens when profiteers and little kids latch on to something - it's all about $$$ and "gimme gimme gimme". I'd like to keep that from happening here.

 

all very true...ultimately,,i think the "kr syndrome" will be hard-pressed to infiltrate this board...

for one,,on a financial level,,the kids will keep away because these toys are on a whole different level to your 3-inch [expletive deleted] & fatcaps...when the starting retail on most new kaiju is $40-$60,,,it does keep out an element of people who cannot afford it,,mainly kids

as for the opportunists & profiteers,,they are swiftly exposed when everything is released in such limited runs & when the "community" is as small & tuned-in as this one...the bad seeds will be weeded out...even though i do feel that some people here can be a bit too heavyhanded & clique-ish sometimes,,but this does keep things in-check i suppose...

all-in-all,,,i really enjoy this forum,,,i just wish that everyone would chill out a bit & respect each other when things heat-up...

All these boards seem to have a tipping point where they go bad. Seems to me that the tipping point is very closely related to the number of members. For me the KR board went to shit when membership shot through the roof right before and after one of those Kaws releases about a year ago or so. I would bet that the ratio of Kaws flippers to collectors was at least 12:1.

There's no right to be on these boards is there? If somebody pulls the kind of crap like buying here and flipping on ebay, why doesn't that person get bounced? If you want to keep them out, then why not keep them out?

I guess they could just come back with a new username, but they'd have to do the same on ebay, paypal, and shipping addresses are harder to change...

I'd hate to see what would happen to this board if there was a Kaws x Gargamel release.

Kids have alot of disposable income as they usually don't have bills and are working at earlier ages these days.

Also, if one can't afford pieces, some try to buy two and flip the second at higher prices to pay for the other one.

Opportunists & profiteers can lurk to gain a sense of what people are willing to pay for flipped pieces or what is popular. Then they can just flip them anonymously on ebay by changing account names or creating new ones should people notice.

The KR syndrome his this board six or seven months ago.
You have the customizers (that were rarely a presence a year or two ago).
You have the list makers and bumpers.
You have the Kozik stuff.
You have the "I want it now" grovelers.
You have the types who won't do their own homework.
You have the types who buy stuff only to sell it a month later.
You have people hawking customs.
Lots of noise and less signal these days.

 

Let's see, this board is about 1 1/2 years old, so it only was legitimate for about 1 year?

it is a real shame if this forum is "falling to pieces" & it is not even 18 months old!!! read,,,,18 months old!!!!!!!

maybe this hobby is something that you should not be investing in if it is falling to shit within months (in your eyes)....

i really like how people around here act like they are hardened veterans when in
reality we are ALL quite new to this (minus some exceptions like Brian,,etc etc etc)...compared to the punk,,comic,,skate,,vintage toy scenes...this whole thing (including the western KR-style vinyl) is a relative baby...

i am pretty sure that about 99.9% of us (even "the list" OGs) were on KR not that long ago...i still go on there to sell off some western vinyl,,but that is about it...

in terms of longevity,,,this particular scene is so young,,,minus the vintage companys,,the majority of the main player companies have only been up & running for 2-4years......think you need to look at the bigger picture

i do not think i am living in a dream world...some kids would have to go into serious debt to keep going with this particular scene...i am willing to bet that the majority of people here have full-time jobs & are over 20......

as for profiteers changing ebay accounts & ids,,,that seems to be a lot of trouble to go through to make a few bucks...

if someone wants to make quick money,,,they should start selling weed or get a degree in corporate banking....

i think people need to just enjoy this hobby & stop worrying about what so&so is doing with their toys....

like i said earlier,,,if someone is being shady,,it will catch up to them sooner or later...

for now,,,get on with it...and stop worrying about who buys what & who customises this & that...

i hear you about some of your complaints...mainly people not doing their homework...that is how i get most of my info & hook-ups,,,by doing some legwork...it does require dedication,,that is for sure

Not trying to be elitist or even associate myself with hardened veterans.
Just saying that the board has a completely different feel than from a year ago.
And I don't think its for the better. But nothing I can do about it.

yes,,true,,it has changed some...and definitely with more negatives BUT it is still a great place for info without nearly as much BS as KR...

although KR is good for entertainment value...the drama!!!!

it is inevitable that more people will migrate here...hopefully that the majority are good & will bring some positivity...this scene is young & needs places like RFSO if it is to thrive....

I will respectfully disagree with you that it's any "worse".

I would argue that with the influx of new members and the rest of us getting to know each other a bit more, it's changed for the better IMO....

a lot of collectors just gobble up stuff and show it off just to feel important.
they don't have that sort of satisfaction in their "real" lives.

those are the ones that come & go after a while.
they buy everything on KR and then sell it when they discover SB or RxH

pretty soon, they'll see a new "thing" and the new kaiju will get dumped for that.

The list was started so collectors weren't driving up the prices on auctions that fellow collectors are already bidding on. And it also helped with identifying flippers and let us all know who the scammers and shill bidders were.
But then a bunch of people start attacking the people calling out the flippers, scammers and shill bidders. Is that right? No, its bullshit. So if people would rather defend the assholes than the people sticking their necks out and calling out the bad stuff then why have a list at all? If people don't want a community that helps each other out...so be it. There's already a whole load of people that were on the list, but didn't abide by it for a second that are fair game in the eyes of a lot of collectors. We had a really cool thing here and people just had to shit all over it. Its really sad.
