Hi. I'm new to the forum but oooold to the internet. I work in Chicago for a Japanese org. Unfortunately it doesn't have any kaiju-related perks. I've been vaguely aware of the Japanese vinyl scene for some time, but only own a few things. I'm especially drawn to weird customs, unexpected contrasts, & fine details. Working on some customs...we'll see how it goes. Other than toys, I like art, music (jazz, tech/house, psych, metal, Boris), movies (old Euro & Jpns., genre pics, Art Theatre Guild), & travel (though my budget for travel these days is non-existant). -Vog
Welcome - Many of us envy you, not just for the Japan-company connection and all its potential for vinyl exploitation, but because you are in Chicago, home of Rotofugi! You have been to Roto, right? Tell Kirby hello from all the SB nutjobs.
thanks for the comments. Toybot, I've been reading your blog for a while and it's really one of the best around! I love Rotofugi. Kirby is a great guy.
yea, I saw them play with Boris in 05 in Vancouver and 06 in Minneapolis (I move around a bit). The 2nd show was skullcrushingly loud, and they played for hours. I didn't quite make it to the end. Pretty sweet though. These days I've been hitting the Electric Wizard.
Ha! thats awesome, me and my friend were just 'dooming out' on IM talking about Cathedral, Electric Wizard and what have you. We are starting a doom/drone project up. Anyway, enough of my waffle, nice to meet ya!
All those bands rule...plus... dot(.),Corrupted,Ramesses,Floor,Cavity,Sourvein,Noothgrush,Fistula,Saint Vitus,Sloth,13,Burning Witch,Grief,Toadliquor......
It's funny because I can be listening to some old Carcass or some new industrial shit like Psyclon Nine or Columbine and then turn right back around and play some Cranes or Sunday Munich... It has to be extremely dark & heavy or completely beautiful and serene... either way it's all good
*sighs* old Carcass... Symphonoes of Sickness, or Necroticism... are my faves. Reek just sounded awful, and Heartwork and Swansong were just crap. lol! I hear you though. I got bored with a lot of music recently, it's getting harder and harder to find something that really pops and grabs your attention.
yeah' the older Carcass material is what I'm referring to as well... the newer stuff was pretty lame.
