Nice GID shot of that Akro. Interesting to hear about the masks and how that was what Mori envisioned.
That's so weird because I was checking out some of my newer masked figs the other day, and I kind of got the feeling that with the cost of the masks, that maybe this wasn't just a quick phase, and maybe it could be a "step up" in Mori's mind. eeeeeiiineresting. I like masked stuff just fine. masked stuff + some free hand = great. not many of the fat free burntmarshmellow chaosman? oh no!
Thx Lulubell for the insider scoop. I am starting to change my mind on a few previous masked releases. They are different from the older stuff or the non masked versions and do sit nicely with the rest of the collection now that I put them together. I wouldn't say I like them more but it's still nice. (glad in a way I got some good deals on these) Also I'll have to try and get both the milky Jyrinko set to see if I like it more in front of my eyes. Probably say no to the burnt marshmellow part deux. Since most of the people that own the milky Evil and MH like it more than the original (which I don't think I would have the same opinon) I'll have to check them out myself. That said, putting these milky ones next to the original could make a pretty shelf. Will have to see.
The following are all from the pre-order section of Lulubell, as of today (as well as the green Amoeba that Joe posted): Also, there's two new mini-cats, but I didn't know if they belonged in the cat thread, or here w/all minis
I'd have a nice fortune kid collection if they weren't so pricey. I love the various vinyl colors of RxH.
I agree on both accounts. The new blue is probably my fave - only barely being favored over the neon green. I think these guys look dope, and I've been tempted to sling a sheathed katana over their shoulder & samurai helmet on their head Deckin em out in Canico-ish style ^_^
Nice one. Design goes very well with the figure. I might get this one along with the gold/black rub standing cyclops cat. It's a figure with a lot of potential, but I'll pass on the red with yellow eye version. Not much to that one. Interesting comments on the trend to more and more masked work. It's not a road I'll be going down (focusing more on the excellent OG releases), but it will be interesting to see how things work out.
phone charm mini is amazing... also, I was just thinking last night that it would be amazing to see other sculpts with the burnt marshmallow sprays. a white bigaro with burnt marshmallow paint would be so fucking good. but I also really, really respect Mori's (actually all artists') vision and see it as a take the ride or don't type thing. If he wants ideas I'm sure someone would let us know...he's done what he's done up to this point and done it pretty well. we can all have our opinions, but it's his bus and we're just riding.
Naah, I don't think it's that black or white. We can walk down the road a while, check out the landscape ahead, and decide whether or not to keep going, branch to the left or right, take a few steps forward and a couple back, or just hang back and enjoy the early scenery. No reason for anything to be "all or nothing," and no reason to chain yourself to anyone's bus. I prefer walking and making decisions step by step. Whether an artist wants to listen to other people's ideas is their choice. Plenty of choices for all involved.
I've never been on a bus where I couldn't get off, or get back on. but I've also never ridden one where I got to get behind the wheel and drive unless it was my own. and that was a shortbus.
I guess I just have a different way of looking at this stuff. The idea that we're just passive consumers in all this has never sat well with me. Along with many others, I've made a number of trips to Aoto and have shared my thoughts with Mori. So there is a constant interaction which seems to be part of the "master plan"- otherwise Mori would just sell online and wouldn't bother with maintaining a shop. Plus, at the shop, he frequently asks people what they think of new releases. Mori obviously cares what other people think of his work. This road isn't a one-way street. The best way to show that you really care about someone's work is to give them an honest, balanced assessment, not a sugar coated "it's all good" blank check that belies your true opinion. What good is a Yes Man to anyone?
when it comes to selling products, sometime's that's the best thing. I'm not discounting the importance of fan feedback...even fan input. just trying to put it in perspective. I welcome feedback on my own work, and miss it when I don't have it. but I also don't enjoy being told what to do, how to do it, and what's good and what's not. I guess coming from an art background I just think the boundary is a lot more clear between discussion and disrespect.
We're back to that? OK, I see the thread now. It seems the issue here is whether our comments will impact RxH sales? And where's the line in the sand demarcating the boundary between feedback and disrespect? I haven't heard these points ("respect; sales impact") brought up when we talk about other lines. Why now? Why with this line? I've got around 100 RxH figures in my collection. I think I've earned the right to make a comment or two without being branded as disrespectful or anti-salesful (couldn't think of a nice adjective to go with that one. )
...and the thing about Cronic figures is that the paint apps are great, but I can't get into the sculpts. That Maverasu looks like a duck. I don't own any, but I might buy them if they had better sculpts. ...oh, wait. Wrong discussion. Flyder reminds me of the fly guy from TMNT. What was his name- Baxter Stockman? I didn't care for the eyes at first, but they're sort of hypnotic...
what would happen if you took the head from that phone charm and put it on like a GLyos body? that would be pretty cool.
