Hey guys, I went to my storage space on Friday and discovered that everything that I had collected in the last 25+ years was jacked. My toy collection gone. Record collection gone. Comic book collection gone. Magazines gone. All my pushead prints and books and art books and just awesome books in general gone. My Usugrow skatedecks gone plus a few other cool decks It hurts to type this shit. Yesterday I found some Godzilla shit at Big Kid Collectables in Sherman Oaks. The girl working said I should come back when the owner is there tomorrow. Apparently he bought other stuff but he had no idea what it was (no shit) and was just sitting on it. fingers crossed. Last night a friend spotted some of my records in an instagram picture. They were on the wall at amoeba. Tons of rare shit at awesome prices. A few things sold since Friday morning when they went up on the wall. I need to go back tonight and look through the stacks that havent been put on the floor for sale yet. I have a feeling I'm gonna be paying out my ass to get these back. Theyve pulled everything aside so far for me though so hopefully nothing else sells. No luck on finding my comics or books or artwork yet or the majority of my toys. Its been a long stressful few days. Hopefully more stuff will start turning up. And if any of you out there see abnormally cool stuff pop at places could you guys give me a shout. 310 663 8222 This shit has got me bummed, but everyone I've ran into and dealt with have been really cool about helping. Thanks ps... most of my monster worship duh knees are safe. thanks for your concern chad pps... the storage unit was in north hollywood, robbed probably about two weeks ago. thats when Big Kid collectables ssaid they bought the stuff. and I was at storage 3 weeks ago. ppps fuck piece of shit thieving assholes... curbside dentistry will be your fate
That is terrible news Scott. Is there not any kind of insurance/liability on the part of the storage rental place? You might have to pay extra for this, but when you are talking about a whole collection as the type we all have, it is worth it, even just to cover damage from flooding, etc. Even so, I know it doesn't help that much, but at least it is something. I don't know what kind of recourse you will have with the stores getting your stuff back, but I am pretty sure (if it was possible to prove which it probably isn't) they are not allowed to sell your things. Most small shops are run by decent folk, and when you end up describing a large lot of stuff that came in together, they will help you out. Wish you the best of luck man. Fuck POS thieves indeed.
you have to have insurance for public storage, but as you know or most people here know you cant really put a monetary value on this shit. it took years to find things, especially records. the storage space assumes no liability. only cameras at the gate and in the lobby. thats it. luckily i had lots of records that were given to me as gifts for working on the project and some paranoid label owners would write my name on the labels of the vinyl. I found some of those last night at amoeba. i'll have more hopefully good news to report after i go there tonight.
Dude, I mean what the f' is saying sorry going to do. Regardless I am sorry, wish there was a more endearing term I could use. I will have my tattoo pals from Asylum Tattoo on Venice Beach and their minions out kicking ass and taking names later. Can you pm me a few things that would stick out for the not so into pop culture people. The owners a 50+ year old British guy. Who still thinks tattooing Whoopee Goldberg is cool Uber nice fellow , just knows nothing about what you lost Along with a few other shops I know people. These shops all have kids that flyer or apprentices that actually have time to do this type of shot..... This blows!!!!!! I will get this sent out..... I hope collectively we can get a lot if your stuff back!!!! I hope that storage place gives you something, I mean what's the point in keeping it there if people can just come take stuff?
Yeah, there is definitely no way to get satisfaction in this case I know; only trying to mitigate the loss. And of course we are screwed when trying to explain to an agency how 'valuable' a lifetime of collecting is. F**king turds. I am so tired of people/organisations/businesses just disavowing all responsibility and shirking liability for their own f**king service. What the hell are you paying for, when people these days just shrug their shoulders and say 'oh well' when something goes wrong?! MFers.
Shit. We were victim of a 20 000$ worth of stuff robbery in 95' (mostly mine, of course), I know how nightmarish this situation can be I think that may be the situation that made me collect even more afterword ... I don't even know what to say to you Scott. Fuck this.
Scott that sucks giant monkey nuts! I completely hear you on not being able to even put a value on all those years of collecting. Years of time and effort finding things trumps any value, that you can't replace. Hope they catch those bastards and you get your retribution (I'd also want to knock some teeth out). These a-holes probably didn't know what they had but it looks like they knew enough to go sell some of it to the right places.
to try an be constructive in this situation, maybe post some pictures of the stuff that people can look out for toy wise especially or anything that might stand out and bring leads to less obvious stuff. Sorry this happened to you heres hoping you can retrieve the majority back with ease.
Damn Scott, real sorry to hear this happen.. I can't even begin to imagine your frustration. Its times like these when its useful to have pictures of all your valuables stored somewhere, or at least a document with all your belongings, descriptions, etc. Glad to know you're getting some of your stuff back but hopefully they can track whoever has been selling your things and you continue to recover what you've lost. Hope for the best.
Maybe you can make some sort of flyer people can post on instagram and other social mediums to help find your shit. Most second hand stores take a photo id when people sell things for this reason, so I'm sure it won't be too hard to find who did it. Also, once you find the people who did this don't forget, violence is the only answer. Let me know if I can help in any way.
I don't know you personally, but I totally sympathize with your loss. It's truly disheartening to see your life's collection disappear and show up all over the place. I wish there was something I can do to help. As it is, I'll send positive karma your way and hope those fuckheads that stole your stuff have their balls eaten off by rabid turtles.
Jeez,.. it sucks beyond words when this happens. Even though some may refer to these items as "things", it still feels like part of you was taken w' it, I know. But you do have an awesome group of supporters here, and have already received some great advice above. Wish you best with your recovery, bud, on All fronts!
Wow man, this definitely sucks. Reading your post makes my heart sink a little. I can't imagine what you're going through, let alone if it was m collection. Sorry to hear this has happend to you. Since it was a storage facility, I'm guessing the jackals knew what was inside your unit? Unless they went door to door finding valuable shit? Did anyone else get jacked? If it was just you, then you were definitely targeted and they were specifically after your stuff. I hope this all gets resolved, and you get (mostly) everything back, at least the rare stuff.
thanks for everyones support and suggestions... i have a name and facebook page of a suspect. i should have been a fucking detective. no one i know. the retard cashed a check so I got his name and was able to find his degenerate ass in about 15 minutes. I got a few recovered toys from Big Kids Collectibles. Paid out the ass at Amoeba to get a tiny percentage of my records back. Books, Comics, the majority of my Toys and Records have yet to surface.
are you calling in the authorities? He did steal things from you. I hope you can get as much as you can back. All the best, man.
Re: the comics I'm friends with Carr the owner of Earth 2 Comics on Ventura and I am happy to go there with you or with your info on what was stolen so they can keep an eye out as well as talk with other comic stores. Re: The police, If you choose to go that route a fellow dad at my daughters school is Josh Geller. He is with the LA DA's office as a prosecutor of misdemeanor crimes in the San Fernando Valley, if the police don't help with a report I can call and find out what to do. I'm really sorry this has happened to you. Todd
It is indeed, can be confiscated at the buyers expense as well. On another note, whenever I've sold things like records, books, and the ilk I have always had to sign something with the stuff line listed and contact info. That should help find the culprit. Of course you have to show proof it's yours... and that probably is an almost impossibility.
