Ok so reunions, they suck. The only ppl who like them are people who never saw the band in the first place or the people who saw them but that was the peak of their existence. That said, the Devo reunion will be good for one thing, CYAN DEVO HATS! http://store.clubdevo.com/store/product ... e/thegoods Discuss...
years ago i met a girl who had never heard of DEVO and it made me realize I had somehow become that "old dude"
Haha me too...I still have it somewhere. As a 13 year old, Devo helped me transition into other "new wave" bands, then Dead Boys, Sex Pistols and finally US hardcore punk. So thanks Devo! I still wish I had my Duty Now For The Future shirt... I like the blue domes, and the new weird mask things, but a lot of the songs on the new record outright BLOW.
Shout was the sharkjummper way back when. The new stuff will of course suck, Mothersbaugh has been doing soundtracks for kids cartoons movies and commercials for decades. My daughter was watching a commercial for the Rugrats way back when and he snuck the hook from whip it in there. I dont doubt hes just as subversive as ever (his art is great) but man new Devo records suck. I guess theyre proving the de-evolution theory tho too.
I agree. I actually thought the new songs weren't bad at all. These EPs are respectable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Us_Work_It - learned this song from Yo Gabba Gabba http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Song_Study_EP I think the song "Don't Shoot (I'm a Man)" is cool too.
yeah, I should say there are a few good ones in the new mix...but they had that survey thing a few weeks ago where you could vote for the album line up...it was not easy finding good songs amongst the garbage. And I like the Dr. Detroit theme! I saw them in 2008 right here in Akron, they sounded great and looked pretty good too.
being the "old dude" in todays world is a good thing, it may just be the generation gap but man kids suck these days the word soft core comes to mind
A 4 second play... Bedroom preparing to leave for a Mark Mothersbaugh art show him: we should bone up on devo trivia, and then start a conversation with mark mothersbaugh and see if we can get him to hit us. her: [laugh] yeah! him: and we'll wear our devo hats and make him sign them - I bet he never gets sick of that one. her: and i'll wear my devo bra! him: i should go up to him and say [in eager voice] "is it true that 'devo' is short for 'de-evolution'?" her: yeah! [starts laughing uncontrollably] and i'll say "is it true that the indian was the only gay one?" And...Scene! I actually wish they were making it down to these parts. Closest show is 6-8 hours away.
The DEVO dudes are FAR too cynical about the music industry for the reunion to suck. They know exactly what they're doing, and given the fact that they have successful non-DEVO careers, it's not like they're doing it out of desperation for the money. I hate most reunion tours but would love to catch DEVO again. I haven't seen them since um 1978.
Devo sucks...why would anyone want to listen to that drivel... Just fyi, this "reunion" has been ongoing since 1996...there's been fairly consistent touring since then. I couldn't give a shit about the new record, but seeing them live is always a great experience. If you have a chance to see them, do it...it's not 1978 Devo, but it's still a great show.
I saw them when they passed through the Bay Area a few months ago. It was the "Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!" show. They performed the entire album and it was a really teriffic show. I was blown away by the amount of energy they exhibited. They've still got it, for sure. I haven't heard the new stuff, though.
The new record is good - modern, but still sounds like New Traditionalist/Freedom Of Choice era DEVO. Great cover art - but that's kinda expected from those guys.
thats cool! i picked up the full band figure set for her a few years ago. it was the long rectangular shaped box. we caught DEVO at the 9:30 club about 4-5 yrs ago (i think). they killed it! my wife caught one of the green bouncy balls that Mothersbaugh threw out to the crowd during the last song. it was a fun night indeed.
Just like The Who didnt really want to die before they got old, DEVO just isn't through with being cool.
