deleting vs. locking threads

just my very subjective view:

im always a little shocked when threads are being deleted.

to me as a german with a totally fxxked up history
and being grown up in west-berlin threatened by
former eastern germany (ddr) for over 20 years
DELETING stuff has either a nazi or a communist association.

DELETING threads which are opinions harm freedom
of speech, thus dont seem to go along with my
democratic understanding at all.

would love to see threads being locked if necessary
or sent to the end but not being deleted all of a sudden.

please dont get me wrong - not ment to be attacking at all - peace.

Its a private message board, so the freedom of speech is limited to what ramos wants on here.
I kinda like how b/s/t ones and things go away.

 

I suppose I get your point, but I also like to lean toward the fact that in the end these are still just toys we're talking about here. Useless threads that make no contribution to why we're all here deserve to be deleted and I for one don't feel threatened by this at all.

 

Deleting or locking threads doesn't bother me.
It's a private board, sponsored by S7, so they're going to police it to a degree.

 

Locking when things get crazy is a good thing in many cases. People need to cool off, and locking helps that.

Deleting seemingly innocuous threads seems heavy handed to me, but I can understand it if it is a) offensive or b) marketting unrelated goods or services.

Other than the cases above, I am not for deleting in process threads.

 

I prefer locking. In my opinion, no on-topic thread should ever be deleted. And most topics fit somewhere on this forum. There is, afterall, an off-topic forum for discussion that does not involve figures. I also think that the mod/admin locking the thread should leave a comment that indicates why the thread is being locked.

The main problem with deletions is that there is obviously no record of what happened.

 

A comment, if time allows, as to why a thared was locked is a good idea. Puts an end to pointless speculation...possibly.

 

I think this and posting "not for public" information are the only reason threads are being deleted at this point.

 

I've seen threads deleted for other reasons. One of my threads was deleted, and it couldn't have been for one of those reasons.

 

You could start your own message board and keep track of everything.

 

Problem with thread locking is that information or material that a company may consider to be confidential, is still viewable by people. That's one example of why deleting threads is a good idea.

 

Certain situations definitely necessitate deletion. But if locking would suffice, then I think it is the better choice.

 

Sales threads get deleted when the items in them have been sold. I think it keeps the Sales section cleaner, keeps people from getting harassed about things they may have already sold and also maybe keeps speculators from tracking the prices of their investments.

Deleting, locking down, or even keeping a thread unlocked and undeleted is based on such contextual things and no one rule could cover all the situations.

Personally, I don't see arguments on a web board as contributing to the positive interests on the board. Most times when the arguments go too far, no one engaging in these come out looking good and it's clear there will be no resolution. In some ways locking down threads just showcases how small people can be and while that can serve as a deterrent, it can also serve as ammunition for some other shitty and inane argument.

In the end, why not try and be positive in posts on the web? If you don't like a toy or whatever just move on and post about a toy you like, or whatever. When you wanna post something in whatever, try not to be incendiary, or touch on these bullshit topics that cable news uses to divide people.

Toys fucking rule, acting like an 8 year old doesn't.

I see your points, but locking a thread that has gone awry creates a record that can be reviewed in order to determine what action, if any, should be taken against the members involved in the altercation. The thread can always be deleted at a later point in time.

Also, meaningful discussion often takes place before all hell breaks loose. Why throw the baby out with the bath water?

I like to delete the threads so people don't get any ideas on how to stir up trouble. I feel like when I have left certain threads locked, people have just copied the tactics. This is not suppose to be a super archive, so I think it is ok to delete.

she and john were the two people who were the most nice to me when i joined over here.

please find me an example of her being mean, and being sarcastic doesn't count. it's already been pointed out people on this board have no sense of humor most of the time.
