Just read the guillermo del toro (pan's labyrinth) is directing the Hobbit split into 2 films. Kind of cool
On the one hand this has me excited, as Del Toro definitely has his own style. On the other, I would like it to be similar to the way Peter Jackson did LotR. I guess I'll have to wait and see on that. Either way, I dont think New Line was going to let PJ within 1000 miles of the director of this. Typically when you sue someone for 100s of millions of dollars they dont like you much anymore.
The article said that he's moving to new zealand for the next 4 years to work with peter jackson and the special effects crew. So it's probably going to be awhile. i'm just glad sam raimi didn't get the gig.
Damn, 4 years? Smaug better look REALLY damn impressive if it's going to take that long. Did the article mention whether or not Ian McKellen is going to be Gandalf? If not, it's going to lose a lot of steam I think.
I hope its different to Jacksons LotR. The two books read completely different, and the Hobbit has a much lighter tone.
Oh definitely tone wise they are different. I just hope any recurring characters are played by the same actors. I dont know why that bothers me so much, but it does. However I dont think Ian Holm will be Bilbo...considering he's probably a shade to old to play him.
I heard this, I think it's cool. I agree, it should have a different director, and it's a perfect choice, he's not TOO off from PJ. Also heard Jackson has something to do with it still, is he producing it or something? I dunno, I'm excited.
i was kidding. Should be a great movie. Personally i can't wait for the dark knight. http://www.whysoserious.com/itsallparto ... poster.htm
Yeah, Jackson is Executive Producer, and I believe he'll be working with the same two writers who he worked with to adapt LOTR, so given that and the fact that he'll be working closely with Del Toro, there will probably be as much continuity as difference with these movies. This is great news. I can't think of anyone better-suited than Del Toro. Maybe Gilliam, but chaos goes where Terry goes. Del Toro has that dark fantasy edge, similar to Jackson's in "Heavenly Creatures" and LOTR. While The Hobbit may be a more upbeat and "light" tale than LOTR, you don't want it to be all Glowing Rainbow Toadstools and the Seven Dwarves. Gotta have some dread and edge.
wow...i thought jackson would do this but if he is producing it i'm sure he will have some influence. i never saw pan's labyrinth but i guess i need to now.
I think Jackson got into a huge fight with the studio over royalites from the movies which kind of paved the way for him not to. Yeah..Del toro is great at creating aesthetically pleasing worlds and creatures. Hellboy 2 actually looks entertaining to me...and hopefully it'll be better than the 1st.
It was a good drama, but I was expecting a scifi movie. I just wish it was what my mind created instead of what it was.
