Knowing I'm in the minority, the Joker looked awful. Bad/overacting and NOT in the way the Joker should be. Sorry, I hate to be the negative Nancy, but I'm WAY LESS thrilled now.

It just seemed like Ledger was trying too hard to be "weird" and it hurt it. I'm usually not a crazy fan-boy about comic movies, like whining about every little thing, but this is not just any little thing.

to me i think it fits in with Nolan's vision of the film. I think he wanted something over the top and weird to balance it out. And I also think that on the flip side Nicholson's version fit in with Burton's vision.
There's a profile shot of two-face which seems pretty cool and subtle. I think it's towards the end where the blond guy is sitting in the car holding the gun.

Sorry, bad acting is bad acting I don't care, but it just seems that way to me.

It seems like Ledger said "Hey, I gotta be 'weird' and 'crazy' maybe I'll copy Johnny Depp or something?" and did it.

I love Nolan, I love Begins and I love Bale. I WANT this movie to kill, but I just know with Ledger it's gonna not be my thing. But I mean, if you dig it it's all you :)

I have to agree with you on this.
I wasn't really sold on his Joker either.
Maybe it will be better in it's entirety, but I'm guessing that they are high lighting the best bits for us to get an idea of the character, and it just ain't cutting it.
I still see alot of Nickolson in this Joker, which seem like a bit of a cop out to me.

Looks like a cool gritty take on Batman.
I still haven't seen Begins cause a friend said the storyline sucked.

Probably rent both on DVD at some point.

I loved Begins, I didn't think "Scarecrow" was well casted either, but he's a lesser character IMO in that film.

I don't mind gritty, I do mind fake-ass-acting. OK I'll stop my fan-boy-bitching now, sorry hahaha.

Can't wait to see this one. I actually like Heath's Joker. I don't think it was over done at all. This one seems to have that "loose cannon" feel to 'im. quick witted, weird, crazy--sometimes eerily calm--from what I could glean. HL's joker feels scarier--like something only a guy in a batsuit could handle. how? I guess we'll see.

Jack Nicholson's Joker was very cool, but I don't think HL's joker is anything like that one. I mean, it's JOKER, so how much different can we expect it to be? I think heath's take is interesting, different, layered, and unmistakably "Joker". but that's just how it strikes me.

Jack Nicholson IS the Joker, not AS the Joker, big difference.

No offence to Jack's acting but his Joker wasn't archetypal stuff for me either.

Heath is too young to be the Joker as well.

I am super keen to see this film though. I love Nolan's work so far.

Mark Hamill's Joker is the best, hands down. Batman the Animated Series was amazing.

I agree with Vombie, but clearly we're in the minority here.

I've been really impressed with what I've seen of Ledger's Joker so far. I saw the preview scene of Dark Knight before I am Legend and I thought it was amazing.

I've never been a huge fan of Nicholson's Joker. Something about it just never sat right with me.

At first I was turned off by the Joker's makup in the new movie, but the more I see it the more I like it.

Ledger's Joker, from the trailer, seems more sinister than Nicholson's interpretation.

Really? Still seems just fake. Looks like an Insane Clown Posse reject tring to do his best of what he thinks acting "twisted and dark" is. Like some goth kid at the mall got to play the part. Again, I know it's just me.

I have to agree. Ledger's take on the character has more brooding malevolence... I'm pretty excited to see the entire thing and witness how brutally 'evil' the Joker has become.

The joker has been done so many ways by so many people it's hard to say who's done it the right way.

You could have someone say that none of the movie Jokers are good because they've never read a comic in their life and the only Joker they know is the Scooby-Doo one.

I think Ledger's Joker is awesome and will fit the tone of the movie really well.

Of course the same could be said of Nicholson and Burton's Batman.

At least Schumaker never got a hold of the Joker... Even though the riddler was basically the same character, which was really lame. Edward Norton would make an awesome Riddler.

there's an idea, but I fear it might be too late for that as he's already the new face of the HULK.

Yeah, maybe I'm pissed cause I hold ALL Jokers up to that standard? If Willam Dafoe wasn't the Goblin he'd be PERFECT though.

I guess my biggest beef with a "brooding" Joker is that in the comics he doesn't brood. The Bat broods, he's unapproachable, clad in black yet the hero. The Joker is funny, charismatic, colorful and a fun guy....but he'll murder a bus load of 7 year olds by hand. Also that fake voice Heath used is bugging me like nuts, sounds like a guy who does diamond radio commercials in my area lol.

I hope Two Face saves this film for me, maybe he's the major villain and this is all a huge ad thing and Jokers not so major, like Scarecrow. We all thought he'd be the major villain, yet it wasn't.

I think this film needs to be seen all the way through before deciding on Ledger's performance. It's edited really choppily, almost like a teaser trailer. And that's a good thing, since it gives you something to look forward to and doesn't ruin the movie (like many trailers do) by showing you the entire story before you've bought your ticket.

Unfortunately it also leads people to judge characters based on 18.7 seconds of footage cut across 10 scenes.
